Outbound to Bali from NYC starts at about $1400 for July - BUT you cannot return from Bali during July! (blackout period) I presume you'd have to pay a way higher return fare - probably making this over $2000 roundtrip.

I can only speak for Japan, korea, Philippines, vietnam, and hong kong. Out of those if you want to be able to speak english i would choose Philippines. If you want to feel safe then Japan.
