Not a bad price, and been meaning to return to Taiwan.

For those who want to get some more exploring in, Taiwan is a great springboard for other places. Seoul, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lampur, et. al. Lots of budget airlines fly through Taipei so you can get a lot more places visited.

Istanbul is cool, tool. Tho for whatever reason security made me drop my pants at the gate (I'm serious) after going through 3 security checkpoints because I was an American. Was my least favorite flying experience.

Tell us more about your Istanbul experience... I am American and went there many times. Something like that never happened to me, neither to my American friends. So you are at the gate, pants dropped, butt naked? How did it come to that? I'm asking because it's really hard to believe.

I wish I was lying. This was October/November 2021. Flew to Istanbul through Barcelona but it was a last-mintue flight because a TAP gate attendant decided not to wait for my boarding pass and COVID pass and closed the door.

Anyway, after spending a night for the flight to Istanbul, I get there and realize I didn't have the test needed to enter the city so I was denied entry and instead just hung out until my flight 5 hours later. I flew I think Turkish Air. So I get to my gate and they did American security there like how other spots like Dublin and Amsterdam do. Didn't think much of it until I was then asked a second time for screening at that very gate and this is where they asked me to drop my pants. My underwear stayed on but they went in it and behind my scrotum. This lasted what felt like forever but was maybe 4-5 minutes. Then after they let me go and I had a THIRD security check, this time patting me down again and checking my bag. This was *at the gate* btw, no separate room. People were there on the line and waiting in the seats for the flight to board.

Why it happened? I dunno. I was just existing.

Believe it or not, but it did happen and was weird af. That said, it wasn't the only time it's happened to me. First time, same thing where they made me open my pants to insert their hands in the front, was in Amsterdam returning to the US in about 2007/8.

I must have one of those faces, I guess.

Thanks for the reply! Sometimes, Amsterdam Schiphol is a problem airport (this is why I call it Sh**hole), but wow! I never experienced/heard something like this neither in Istanbul, nor Amsterdam. You're right, I guess. Maybe you have one of those faces 🙂

Yes, but I've heard that Turkish Airlines is very pleasant and if you ever wanted to visit Istanbul this would be a great opportunity as they pay for your hotel and give you some money (don't quote me on the money part but at least the hotel part I'm pretty sure) and I think they also had some tours from what my friend said when she took that route from Taipei to Los Angeles with final destination of Bogota.

They don't give you money.
And the process to request a hotel for your layover is overly complicated.
Also the hotel is over an hour from the airport. They will drop you off at midnight and pick you up at 5am.

Turkish Airlines is a nightmare, and Istanbul airport is a disaster.

hmm interesting ya that sounds terrible.

My friend was able to have a 1.5 day layover there so it was probably better because of that.

Visited Istanbul on a 20 hour layover. Airport is an hour away. So add 2 hours to that. If you have to be at the airport 2 hours before your flight, everything included will be about 5 hours total (ish). 12 hours isn't enough to see a little bit of the city (you get only 7 anyway). Would recommend it if the layover is 20 hours or more ideally.

Wait, aren't they in the brink of war with China?
