It is a little unnecessary. 1440p is fine for 27". I also have a 28" 4K and there's not too much of a noticeable difference

27" needs at least 4K if you do productivity tasks. 5K is better if you use a Mac.

27" with 1440p might be enough if you only play games and watch videos.

Some 13" laptops come with 4K. "A little too small for 4K" fits those devices.
