Just picked one of these up at the Lone Tree CO store - had 3 left by the ceiling fans and a nice pile at the entrance/exit near the contractor check out.

Looks like this price is actually showing online as well for me right now with 38 available for "delivery", but guessing that may be a local-ish service.

I'm wiring my house right now and 12/2 wire is 46 cents a foot. Considering just the Cost of the wire I'd say this seems like a solid deal

Can anyone recommend a cheap reel for something like this?
These [homedepot.com] are very good for what they cost. I have a couple reels of this type (not sure if they're the same brand) that are around 30 years old and still look and work like new.

For at least one of my cord reels, I prefer this type - https://www.amazon.com/EP-Extensi...B08RRPND1L

Having said that, I have a Bayco in the style of the one that I linked. Bayco makes great cord reels, and you can't go wrong with any model from them. The slimmer ones without outlets definitely take up less space. For me, it's been nice to have one with outlets and the metal frame.

I think all extension cords are inflexible at cold temps, being metal.

Huh? Copper doesn't get harder when it gets colder, in fact quite the opposite. Look it up.

What matters is the type of plastic used for the jacket, not the copper itself, and that's all over the place depending on the brand and intended use of the cord.

Thats a bargain, I buy 100ft 12/3's often - anything $50 or less is a good deal.

Not the sjoow cords. More expensive but super nice, I have a couple.
As a homeowner, I don't want the ability to work outside when it's cold -- I'd rather have an excuse to stay in and wait for Spring. Thanks for the info though as I hadn't heard of those. Prices didn't look too egregious, but I didn't see what the better brands charge.

I have a 80' heavy duty Ridgid extension cord, and it's like fighting an anaconda when it's cold.

[SD freaked out on me and cut & pasted from the quoted text...]

The only problem with these reels (I have a similar one) is that if you're using one with an outdoor power tool, all/most of those tools seem to have shrouded plugs which can't go directly into the reel. So, you need another plug or another cord. Not a huge issue because you can buy grounded extenders, but it's a bit annoying.

A reel is big improvement over a loose cord though, both for storage and use.
