This is funny.. if you don't know if you need 48gb MORE of ram, then you don't need this computer.

The HP from Costco is a better overall package and better value for money if you need an all-purpose laptop. It's a 120Hz screen, larger battery (68 Wh vs 52 in lenovo), better speakers, better all-metal chassis, etc.

If you need built-in ethernet, or have a specific need for more than 16GB RAM, or want the famous "Lenovo Keyboard", or want to later add a cellular modem to your laptop, then the Lenovo might be the better option.

Also worth noting the HP uses MediaTek wifi. I've got it working well now in Linux using the latest firmware/drivers, but had some issues when I first bought it. I'll bet the qualcom in the Lenovo is better supported overall.

Afraid so and it could be worse like when I ordered a custom T14 AMD Gen1 in December 2020 and watched my status go back and forth for 5 months until it was finally delivered that May. People who got in early on the deal probably took domestic stock while I suspect mine may be in production unless they have inventory in Hong Kong. I'll update when I see a change so others can know what to expect.
My expected shipping date has dropped from next Monday (March 18, 2024) to this Friday (March 15, 2024) and arrival date dropped a day from the 21st to 20th. No sign if this will be coming direct from HK but I'm a short drive from the US distribution/fulfillment center so I should have it much sooner if it's already stateside.

This or the HP on sale at Costco for $700? You're basically trading $300 and Costco customer service for 48GB additional RAM, an ethernet port, and a different brand. Not sure which I think is the better value.
What's the link?

Not so simple -- I have plenty of computer hobbies that can benefit from RAM but that don't make me money. Is the extra RAM worth $300 for my hobbies, knowing it can't be upgraded later if I don't opt for it now? I'm not sure.
I'd take Lenovo over HP every day

I work as an in-house IT, and the P14s model has so many problems!! We bought several of them since day one, and issues keep chasing us. like suddenly the wifi interface will disconnect, and they are either putting too much CPU power or too little heatsink power for the P14s, making the CPU fan continuously spin, leading to extremely poor battery runtime, maximum 2 hours. If it were my personal laptop, I would be so mad
P14s/P16s AMD models seem to be cursed with the sleep wake issue. However, not seeing this with this Gen4 model in the reviews, so I'd jump all over this if I wasn't spoiled by the 15" or higher real estate the last few years, but I'd pony up for the extra years on the warranty. As for battery life, any brand OLED is going to be a drain, but the U model CPU and LPDDR5 should help counter that a bit. There's tradeoffs that have to be made, so there's no perfect machine, you just expect it to stay running at all times, which I'm leery of with these P1Xs models. Eyeing the P1Xv models instead, going to be a bit heavier, but seem more reliable.

I tried adding a senior discount with this and it doesn't get any cheaper. Also, this price is cheaper than the VIP member pricing.

cellular has to be configured at purchase it cant be added later. HP's biggest advantage is the wifi card can be completely replaced with an intel AX210 while this thinkpad is handicapped with subpar wifi forever. i definitely dont trust non intel wifi on PCs

Gen 1 and 2s were basically lemons. 6 out of just 10 Gen2s had their MB replaced in just the first year where I worked.

Not charging, won't wake, won't boot, cameras just out right stop working (even after reinstall). These models had all the problems

This Gen4 (of the very few we got, are okay so far).

What is terrible is the reset hole doesn't exist on these and require opening the laptop to disconnect the battery. Pretty sure it was the p series (1st and 2nd).

My machine has shipped from mainland China and should be here by noon Monday (03/18) according to UPS. Not sure how it'll blow through Customs that quick on a weekend even if it's pre-cleared so maybe Lenovo's Wednesday estimate is more realistic? I did use the free expedited delivery with MyLenovo Rewards and at no point did I see an In Production status like with past custom builds so maybe they have ready-to-ship inventory over there? I placed my order ~2 PM EDT on Sunday (03/10).

It's 90Hz but they cripple it to 60Hz with software. You need to hack the EDID in Windows to re-enable 90Hz. Or use Linux.
