surge in sales leading to more posts about them, maybe. They've had refurb enterprise HDDs available for ages. Bought a few 3TB Ultrastars ages ago when they were ~$40 each. Same threadcrapping then as now. "Oh, they're junk and going to fail!" "Never buy used HDDs!!" Well, no problems while I was using them, mostly for backups and offline storage. All mechanical drive will fail in time. Something of a chance a bit of luck needed, but if you're not using them 24/7 or can accept needing to keep backups to swapping out failures, it's not a huge deal.

Look for the supply of all brands of used high capacity drives (HCDs) to skyrocket (and prices drop dramatically ) every year for the foreseeable future. Massive server farms and large IT departments typically replace their hardware every 3 or 4 years, So the market for used HCDs is always looking in a rear view mirror of 3 to 4 years. As the demand for Cloud services and other commercial storage increases exponentially every year, so the supply of replaced HCDs that they are dumping into this market for refurbed HCDs will also increase exponentially every year. Think of how much the demand for server capacity has increased since 4 years ago. Yet that is TODAY's market for refurbed HCDs . There is only one direction for this market to go.

Data centers do bulk purchases, and when they age out, take a lot of drives offline at the same time. So you're seeing the bulk purchases they did 4 years ago end up on the refurb market.

Because these companies found people willing to 5+ years old USED hard drives that are more than half way through their design life.

Same... Not sure why their own website isn't the cheapest though but often times it isn't, or isn't in stock somehow.

I bought a total of 2 and had the misfortune of both not working. I will never fall for the word Factory Refurbish again.

Price now is $99.99 but there is a 15% off eBay coupon online to bring it down to $85.
Search online.

Also check out the other 10Tb thread at $59.49 each after the coupon.

What's the power disable cable and can these drives be used in the Synology NASs and other NASs???
Such cable will not be compatible with NASs.
