It is a gaming system; yet, the battery is not horrible 1-4 hours depending on how much load. Ie, streaming will get you closer to the 4 hour mark with a dimmed screen.
I plan on picking up a Quest 3 and then trying to use this box for SteamVR. The only negative is the touchpad buttons are very hard / non-responsive. At least for me, so an external mouse is a requirement for most things.
btw, I paid like $1100 (plus tax and an extended warranty) on the outlet via an SD.
For those interested in testing results... it is fast from a user standpoint. The synthetic numbers, of my unit, are slower than userbenchmark or 3DMark expected. This was tested back in November and the system has been on 24/7 since it went through a week of constant stress testing running (Prime, Superstition, etc). This laptop's 4070 beat my desktop 2080S system by around 10% (ballpark).
User Benchmark reported at 150% Gaming, 110% Workstation, and 153% Workstation.
3DMark / TimeSpy reported a 12,612 or so.

For example, a Desktop 4070 GPU performs about 20-30% better than a Mobile 4070 (according to PassMark benchmarks) but the Desktop part has a Max TDP of 200W vs 115W for the mobile. The Desktop i9-13900K is about 25% faster than a i9-13900HX, but the Max TDP is 125W vs 55W.
Of course, actual power use is going to depend on the game, but for me, having a 25% slower machine is totally worth the huge power savings.
I'm currently playing Baldur's Gate 3 on my G15 5535 (Ryzen 7 7840HS/RTX 4060) on 4K Ultra settings (playing on external monitor, of course). Task Manager shows the GPU at 100% and the CPU around 35% typically. My Kill-A-Watt shows about 170W of use, not including the external monitor. A desktop GPU might use more power than that all on its own.
If you value portability, the Dell G Series might not be the best choice. The weight of the machine combined with its big power brick stretches the definition of portable (luggable?). If performance is king, perhaps a mini tower would make more sense. But there's a nice zone where performance, portability, power use, and price meet (that's a lot of 'P's), and the Dell G Series sits in it quite nicely, I think.
YMMV.

I pick it up by the edges of the lower unit (below the keyboard/next to the touchpad) and walk around the house with it.
With all of these Dell/Alienware systems... I get the 3+ year warranty since they all have issues. Just expect that it will need to be sent in for a touchpad, LCD hinge issue, etc. The Inspiron/G systems are WAY cheaper to get a 3+ year warranty on.
Worth noting that I'd never used a 10%-off email promo code at Dell before (and I've been buying from them since the 1990s) if that makes any difference.

If you are still having issues, try to select/configure the system under the "G Series Laptop" section instead of the one from the link which is in the "Deals" section.
