Google Pixel 8 128gb is $399 for existing subscribers if you log in and go to the product page.

Seems to be the cheapest way to get the new Pixel 8 for existing Mint Mobile subscribers that doesn't involve porting to a different provider.

Note that the phone will be locked for 12 months to Mint--although it seems like some folks have had luck with unlocking Mint devices earlier by contacting Mint directly, typically around the 90 day mark. YMMV

This is a bald faced lie.

I am a Pixel Superfan and last 3 phones were Pixel 6 7 and 8 but after using the newest Galaxy S24+ (received for free with a killer trade in promo) the performance is light years better. Apps and notifications are instant and don't lag. If the Pixel had a more modern competitive processor I'd stick with them, but sadly they are not there yet. But for $399 maybe a decent budget phone for some.

I have recently got a pixel 8 from mint mobile, after speaking to customer care and have them explained that I would be traveling international, they got it unlocked within 24 hours.

is it permanently unlocked? Or mint just unlock it for a period of time when you travel abroad?

Mint leases unused airtime from T-Mobile.

That means that if you live in a high demand/congested area T-Mobile will deprioritize non-1st party users. All Mint sees is the coverage T-Mobile provides. That is why you get coverage with T-Mobile but not Mint.

If you go to a non-congested area Mint works just fine.

You just use your phone in heavily congested areas. Theoretically Mint and T-Mobile are the same.

The difference is the level of access and priority on the network.

Mint uses T-Mobile leased free airtime. If there is no free airtime you get no service. T-Mobile is always going to prioritize its own customers.

So then there is no way to guarantee that they have good service in my area. Kind of a scam if they're going to promise excellent coverage just because T-Mobile has good service there. There was not even one hour that I had service straight. My phone was constantly sayibg no service, texts failed 50% of the time and data worked about 10% of the time. When I opened a ticket with them, no one ever got back to me and only that was a text message that after looking into it they see there is not enough coverage in my area. Gee now!

Make sure you phone is provisioned correctly to Mint's network.
Do not use t-mobile for the apn use 'wholesale'.
T-mobile will sort of work and give the false impression the phone is correctly provisioned but the service will be poor.
Yes. My phone has been known to spontaneously switch the APN from wholesale to TMobile.
Can't even guess why.

128GB just isn't enough storage for me and since this doesn't have microSD, it's a deal breaker

Did you change your phone settings. I'd say service is only decent and I live in a big city. Wish it was better but the price is good.

Tried everything there is to do including settings, switching phones, etc. When I went into a big city I actually had service there.

Not all NVMOs are the same. I think they buy a certain amount of "guaranteed" access from major providers (T-mobile, ATT, Verizon).

For example, my parents-in-law had a Verizon serviced NVMO. They switched to another NVMO that uses Verizon and their service improved.

I don't know 100% how it all works but I would imagine that these companies maybe buy bulk amounts of airtime. Say maybe T-Mobile leases 10% guaranteed to one company. Another leases 20% etc. but if you look at your contract these NVMOs always have verbiage about service not being guaranteed.

Understood but then they can't promise anything based on my address. I even bought a new T-Mobile iPhone because they said if I get a 5G phone it will work for sure. Bought a new tmobile iphone because they should work with T-Mobile but of course I had the same service issues with no service most of the time. When I called them they said because it's locked T-Mobile that's why I'm having issues. Like really now! They were just coming out with different excuses why my service wouldn't work. Finally I got an unlocked phone and I was still having massive issues and at that point they had nothing to tell me. So they just texted me that there's no service in my area after all. I just think it's very sketchy the way they claim service is perfect when they can know its not.

Are you sure this works for existing customer? The fine print says new customers only. Has any existing customer tried it?
