When using it the first time I recommend taking it into the garage and running it empty a couple of times on highest setting to burn off any residual chemicals and leave the smell in the garage instead of the house. Just remember to lower the setting when done. I use 2 for very light toasting.

"Yes, the body of the toaster is cool to the touch. Also, the press down handle also lifts to raise your toast and/or bagels up out of the toaster so that you can grab them without sticking your fingers in there."

Went through the warranty process to get a better/ different toaster as a replacement.
