Was the mattress in a protective sleeve? Generally fiberglass-contained mattresses are enclosed with a zippered sleeve that should provide protection, until of course it's torn, then you can purchase a new sleeve.

My guess is, like 99% of people that complain about the fiberglass, they removed the sleeve to wash it and that's when the bad times happened LMAO

I received mine on 2nd day, good quality per the price as per the dimensions and look. I dont under why negative comments on it, it is 6 ft wide , comfortable for 3 people, ofcourse picture itself slow lower back.
doesnt feel flimsy at all, worth the price.
Only thing is it looks light gray not as pictured, i prefer the gray color anyway

I get wanting to find a cheap couch. But this is a near disposable couch. Buying this for ~$200 is pretty much the same thing as paying +$200 for the couch you really want but can't seem to justify paying for.
