Serious question:

Isn't it better to have the leaves come down/out rather than get plugged-up/stacked-up in the pan/run right at the drop?

You would think so! The builder of all the homes in my neighborhood put two 90-degree angles in our downspouts. So in my situation, if a lot of leaves collect up there and then there's suddenly a lot of rain, that clogs up downspouts, which is harder to clear than when using a leaf strainer.

Really? 2 x legit 90's??? I'm surprised your City Codes inspector didn't tag that. Wow. Yes, in your case, these would be needed. Wow, again. Thanks for sharing. When I was still living up in Connecticut, our house had a slate roof, so any roofer wasn't really Happy to work on It's roof/fascia/soffit, 30 feet up …. 1 roofer showed me how to use a leaf blower up/into the downspout, and the leaves were shooting-out like confetti, lol!!

I think you might be on to something. I installed these in my gutters, now the leaves ( and rain water) get backed up at the top of the gutters like you said.

recommend comparing to 6-8-12 packs at amazon from noname companies.
While I dont have this specific one: They are soft aluminium meshes, I dont expect them to be very different in practical results.

not all situations are equal. i live in the woods. in a place where you only get a few leaves... sure... flush em on through. but in my case, if i do that, they will eventually get clogged. sucks for a basic gutter, but one that goes into an underground pipe? it can be disastrous and impossible to fix without breaking out a really long snake to unclog.

we had these on all of our gutters... always sucked to clean them out. had one come out during a cleaning and decided to leave it out. learned the hard way how important they are, lol.

ive been meaning to try out the ones that are ramped shape. see mixed reviews on those.

as far as i know there are not 90° bends. there are A elbows and B elbows, and they are all around 45°. they dont make downspout bends that are different angles. its just that some people have trees with leaves that are the right size and quantity where they become prone to clogging mid downspout vs at the top of the gutter.

I'm not imagining my 90 degree bends. I have seven downspouts around my house and they all look like this. https://imgur.com/a/hFnjJ5g

Would it be better to install gutter filters? I am actually thinking about it. Any suggestions or experiences?
