Seriously, so tired of the same garbage being posted in every thread.
Just to get the rest of the nonsense out of the way :
1) Yes, it's a lot of data to potentially lose so don't be a moron and DO have a backup strategy if it's data you care about.
2) These drives potentially support PWDIS so make sure you do the 3.3v mod and tape or snip the pin if you have a drive that supports PWDIS but a PSU that doesn't. You can also use a Molex to SATA adapter, but use the crimped ones and not the molded ones since the molded ones can burn up.
3) Yes, they don't ACTUALLY refurbish the drive. Do you know how many places are equipped with a clean room to take apart drives and do actual refurbishing? I don't, but I do know that I don't want some random third party opening my HDD before they sell it to me. Slapping a sticker on it, doing a format or secure erase, and even blanking SMART is about all the refurbishing I require on an HDD. Or a PC for that matter.
4) Yes, these drives have a good number of hours on them. Yes, enterprise drive MTBF numbers are insanely high but don't necessarily guarantee a long life. Lots of hours doesn't necessarily mean a shorter lifespan either. If you can't handle that and would rather pay retail..... bye.
5) Yeo, these CAN be louder than normal drives. But honestly, the helium drives from WD have been no louder than most non-enterprise air drives I've dealt with in the past. Your enclosure, mounting strategy, closeness to the enclosure, and personal hearing ability are all variables we can't know. FWIW, I don't think these drives are "loud".

He just needs people to be able to post deals on these drives without someone coming in every single time and commenting that they wouldn't use a used hard drive, followed by pages of arguing on how reliable these are and how much life is left in them. And he's not alone. This gets old

The listing says that is has both a 3 year and 5 year warranty. I sent the seller a message asking for clarity. Ill post back what they say.

This vs seagate ST12000NM0127? I have 4 seagate from them for couple weeks. All pass surface test but have not use them yet. 3 vs 5 yr warranty. Don't burn me for wanting to return seagate. Not a fan of them since .11 model. Too high failure rate and random clicking noise.

I'm still waiting for proof you can still read from these drives when all the helium leaks out in several years.

Because I can still spin up my 500gb WD Blue from over a decade ago and works great.

Helium atom is smaller than any seal, it eventually will all leak out.

Can't we just get new 8TB air drives for $100 again? I miss those.

This is theoretical. Makes sense tho. There are drives still in use from over a decade ago with helium and even longer if you include enterprise tech. I don't know about 20+ years but by then I'd be buying new drives honestly.

These are quieter, may run a few degrees cooler. These also have the "feature" that randomly parks the heads afaik, it's just not as obvious or loud as the seagates. Also the seagates statistically have a higher failure rate so far per backblaze. I'd take these drives.

I bought 5, there's a limit of 5. Nobody is buying enterprise volume level drives from goharddrive.

Email them. They may refund the difference. No reason to be mad at them honestly. Happens all the time. In a past thread someone contacted them and was refunded the difference but obviously ymmv

It isn't Linux. It is Sun Microsystems that created ZFS. The Linux guys are just smart enough to get it working on their OS. BSD had it before Linux. The BSD guys have a different software license and aren't hampered with the GPL requirements/freedoms.

I've personally bought more than the limit during a sale. I've contacted customer service and had them send me an invoice if I remember correctly.
