Here's a link that shows the approved brands and authorized dealers

Because of the issues with counterfeits, i would be leery of getting it from Amazon or other places that's not on the list.

Yes, just make sure they are on the approved list. Not worth going blind to save money.

Everybody keeps mentioning fake sets and how they ordered from so and so in this deal specifically about these B&H ones - These are a quality product from a quality seller (B&H) right? I mean I'd think so but without anyone mentioning any other glasses or retailer people are coming in here commenting how they'd rather be safe than sorry etc etc.

Is there a question of the legitimacy of THESE glasses from THIS retailer or are they just thread crapping? 🤔

Damn about 300 miles away from center line. Guess I'll pull out my binoculars and look northwest to get the same view. Cool

I agree and disagree with "the list" being the end all. Here's a point of view from an Amazon seller. I sold 10,000 of these of these over the past 6-months. Amazon was by the hardest one to get in to sell with. They had me provide proof that mine were manufactured in the US, and after May of 2023. Anything before that date and I couldn't sell them on there.

Back to "the list". It's good to reference and understand who the approved manufacturers are, but understand a lot of glasses from those companies are sold on Amazon. For example, I was an individual seller on Amazon and all of my glasses came straight from American Paper Optics.

Anyway, good side hustle for a whileSmilie

These glasses will be perfect for the eclipse. B&H photo has sold them for years, and they are a legit company. No issues. They are the exact same thing people are trying to charge $5 a pair for. The only difference with those is people had them customized/branded and they are trying to charge a premium for that.

HEB had them locally for $1.49, also made in USA if you are in Texas along the line.

Also, southeast sliver of Michigan. For those traveling down from Detroit, for instance.

I wonder if these fit over prescription glasses.

i did that a few years ago - i put them over my glasses and folded the cardboard wherever the glasses ended. i tucked the ear stems inside of my real glasses stems and worked fine - this time i will plan ahead and rubber band them to my glasses

Is there anything for toddlers or children? These seem to big for them and I would like to them to experience the eclipse.
used these with a 3 year old in 2017 - worked out fine. there are two different "fold here" creases on the american paper optics ones (likely all brands) and the smaller width worked out for munchkins. the earpieces were too long - but honestly you'll want to hold them on anyway just to ensure that the glasses aren't being pulled off by the little one

There are plenty of these available everywhere, even in Walmart next to vision center. just wait couple more weeks and they'd be on clearance. i.e. if you want to save few dollars otherwise get them and get ready!!

Have you looked at the list that's been posted multiple times in this forum? I'm not sure you're really understanding that these are supposed to be legit and people are saying those on Amazon (just like many things on Amazon) might be of lower quality than expected.

If you already bought some but not sure if it's legit, since fake ones have ISO 12312-2 labeling too.

Do the bright flashlight test, you will barely see it. Another way is to look at the lens itself. Inner lens will be plain black. The outer lens will have a silver coating.

If it's black on outer and inner lens, chances are it's fake.
Thank you

Inside the lines is totality, the sun is more or less completely covered, total darkness. Outside the lines you only see the sun partially covered.
That's incorrect. During totality the sun is completely covered, it's not "more or less completely covered." And even when completely covered it's much brighter than "total darkness."

During totality there's no need for eye protection. But even if you'll be at a location that will experience totality, you'll want eye protection so you can view the sun before and after totality.

It never gets completely dark. It is more like civil twilight. Still easy to see.
This eclipse is rare and will be 100% not 99%. Hard to believe but there's a big difference.
