I have yet for the 'handguard' to get in the way of any drilling/driving uses - it's a non-issue especially when you factor the offset & right angle ends. It's actually pretty useful to keep some bits at the ready. Its ergonomics are just a little different - great tool to use once you're used to it.
Personally, the M12 is the easy choice because the full M12 lineup is much bigger/better than what Bosch has to offer.. and I like my batteries to work for more than just one single tool.
Not only the hand guard but the Forward and reverse button is a problem when you drill in a tight corner and need to reverse it to pull out the drill and you couldn't press the button all the way on top of the tool.
Also note that none of the Milwaukee attachment has the bit lock like the Bosch, therefore you can lose/drop the bit easily in some situations. Until you use both and have experience with both, you'll notice how Festool and Milwaukee design are just bad.
If Milwaukee introduce 2nd gen of this tool and get rid of the handle + forward/reverse then I'll buy Milwaukee version. But I'll still be keeping the Bosch, Bosch feel so much premium in the hand.

Just do projects that benefit your wife every once in a while. And make sure to get the packages asap, like as soon as the doorbell rings and rip open and put into tool chest ASAP AND hide all the packaging in the trash, whenever possible. This can make $10-$20k in annual tool purchases, look like close to nothing if executed properly lmao 🤣 🤣… so I hear, allegedly
