Cold Stone has a weird pricing system. If you buy a single scoop or their largest creation the price is within a $1. I believe they charge $6 for a single scoop and $6.80 for their largest creation sundae at my nearest location. So the price for two would be over $10 before tax, then you have a BOGO coupon to bring the price in half. I would not buy anything other than the largest size for this deal. Put the rest in the freezer and then take out for room temp for about 15 minutes before eating is the best way to maximize this deal.
Valid online at ColdStoneCreamery.com or the official Cold Stone® App from 3/1/2024 - 4/30/2024. Not valid on third-party delivery. Sign-in required. Min. purchase before tax of $10. Valid for one-time use only.
Good deal. I remember liking their ice cream from years ago. I also recently got into making ice cream at home, and I highly recommend it. Not only it's a huge money saver but also super fun and easy. You just freeze a bowl overnight, mix ingredients, and churn it in a machine (then mix in whatever toppings you want). I made rum raisin ice cream the other day because stores don't carry it anymore. It was sooooo good (I soaked raisins for days, not just hours).

Do you have a recipe for Baskin Robins Baseball Nut?

Edit

I found a copy-cat recipe what machine are you using?

Can you give a rough estimate for the cost to make ice cream at home? It might be way cheaper than Coldstone, but I don't see it being any cheaper than a quart from any grocery store. Cream alone is much more expensive from what I've seen.

Making ice cream at home sounds so good; what ingredients do you use? and do you use any machine to churn? if so, which one?

I've been making custom ice cream for years in pint (or half pint - 8 ounces - for test flavors) Mason jars. As you say, the expensive part is the heavy cream. I buy a 32 oz container at Sam's Club for $4.68 then add sugar, vanilla extract, (cheap stuff works fine but I like the real thing) salt and whatever flavors I want to add. Last time it was Oreo and Butterfinger crumbled in - yum! The only real work is shaking the closed Mason jar for 5 to 7 minutes, after that you put it in the freezer to harden.

I'd rate it a half step below Ben & Jerry's but equal or better than every other brand I've tried recently. Cold Stone, when I last had it about 5 years ago, was about equal to what I can make.

For recipes, search Mason jar ice cream.

I'm not an expert by any means, but here's what I know as a base for most ice cream.
- Heavy cream
- Condensed milk (or any other thick milk/liquid - I used extra creamy oat milk by Silk with a good result [it contains thickening agents that helps]).
- Sugar (don't be shy with this, or it won't taste good - I've also used stevia to offset calories with a good result)
- Pinch of salt
- Vanilla extract (if desired)
- Whatever flavoring of your choice (for rum raisin, I soaked raisins in rum for several days - I also mixed in a bit of honey whiskey)

If you wanna be fancy, you can create a custard base by using eggs, but I'm too lazy to do that, though I'm sure it'll taste incredible.

As for churning, I have a machine identical to this one [amazon.com]. But, you can find cheaper ones like this [amazon.com]. IMPO, you don't need an expensive machine because all you need is a bowl/container to chill/ice the content and a mixing mechanism to churn. I really like how I can make my ice cream the way I want. I'm lactose intolerant, so it's an added plus for me (heavy cream isn't high in lactose, but I add lactase pills and wait for a few days to break down whatever is left).
