Okay, why should I not pull the trigger on the 3080 version? My build from 2013 with a 1070 upgrade over the years is really getting rough and it can't be upgraded past Windows 10.

edit: Crap- OOS
3 series won't do frame generation. It's a good deal if you're not concerned about all the DLSS features. Given what you're using now it's a nice upgrade. DLSS 3 can give a big boost, letting a 4070 take a solid lead, but it's entirely dependent on those features and I sometimes turn off frame gen because of visual artifacts.

A really good value for the performance. I don't think you could hit this price point with current generation hardware unless you went with much weaker 4060. And the CPU performance difference between Intel 12th and 14th generation parts is pretty underwhelming.

The 3080 draws a lot of power though.

You should probably add that you're mostly referencing benchmarks when you talk about this "big boost".

One of the blights on modern PC hobbyism is this need for validation that comes with having hardware that can do triple digit FPS.

I'm not going to be one of those "60FPS is enough" doomsayers, but let's also not pretend that a number of AAA games are capped at 30FPS to run well on consoles.

Besides, as you mentioned, frame gen isn't a silver bullet. Hardly a point in having it if it needs to be turned off outside of benchmarks.

Bought it in November for the same price (with 3080)
Added RAM and installed largest 2fan CPU cooler that fit in the case - runs great, cool and quiet.
Stock CPU cooler is a joke, temperatures were spiking without heavy loads.

Not sure if it'll be like last time but last time they had this price and it came back in stock multiple times so it might be worth keeping an eye on it

Do you have links to the RAM and fan you used? Thanks.

The stock BIOS does not support XMP profiles so we're stuck with low voltage basic times.
Samsung 16GB DDR5-4800 M323R2GA3BB0-CQK M323R2GA3BB0-CQK0D

I put 3 of them (couldn't find 4th)

When mixed with stock 8GB sticks clock halved, so I opted for 3x16 at 4000 vs 2x16 and 2x8 at 2000

the 3080 is the better deal, more than 20% better performance for about 18% more money. Both have 800W power supplies so can be upgraded in the future.
Appreciate Friend!!!,

OOS. But will keep an eye out for next time.

Complete garbage article. Like it was written by a lazy 8th grade student.

I got the 3080 version a few months ago when it was $899. I upgraded from a machine I put together with a 980ti, which is just a bit slower than the 1070.

I've been pleased with the purchase. I was originally planning to upgrade to a machine with either a 4070ti or 4080. But that would have started at nearly double the cost, and I was tired of waiting for a good deal.

I ordered one today when they were still available. Have you made any modifications to yours? Any performance or heat issues? I ordered a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE as suggested by user kempi2 - but I will wait to see how well it runs Helldivers 2 before committing to more upgrades.
