It's basically printed and stamped cardboard stock, so the marginal cost of producing a kit must be pretty low. The main investment is in designing (graphics, pieces, construction method, nesting the pieces) the kits, so once you hit your sales target you would have a lot of flexibility on pricing marginal kits.

Still, $9 shipped to your door is pretty dang low for the Star Destroyer kit.

Per camel3 it looks like this usually sells for about $30 but has been on sale for around ~$15 recently. So $8.99 seems like a pretty good deal on this.

My 6 year old and I love these, they're a little complex for a 6 year old but he can do *most* of it. It's way cheaper than legos too. We've done the X wing and the Darth Vader Mask.

I would say the Vader mask was complex because of the "ROUND" aspects with straight cardboard pieces (lots of finicky bending). The Xwing was a bit easier. I could see the Star Destroyer as easy as well, he will be stoked. WE hung the Xwing from his celling with Fishing line.
