This has some truly awful reviews and an Amazon warning about being frequently returned…

I've owned this for 3 years… used it twice… worked like a champ for me. No complaints. It's a specialized tool though, so really only worth the amount of times you'll need it

Were you trying to find a deal on a coherent thought?

Hmmm.... 4.6 stars with 2,500+ reviews. I also have a feeling many bought, used to punch their belt, and then returned when they realized they could and would likely not use again. I do see some of the QA problems some did rightfully mention, but "truly awful" is not how I would characterize them as a whole. I used to work with these tools daily (worked in a leather shop) and I would buy this if I needed it.

Can this be repurposed to pierce cat ears? I wanted a Morgan Freeman look on my bengal cat.
How horrible. Not only would you have a hole in the cat's ear, but the cat would probably put a few holes in you. Well your skin at least.

Have 1 of these, a different style. Wife usually needs to punch holes in belt a couple times a year. Nice to have. Seems like a good price.

Very handy when you need it. I use one of these to punch holes in a water bottle cap to baste meat on the grill with a chunky marinade that won't go through a spray bottle. The key is that you need to twist the material to make the cut rather than putting 100 pounds of pressure on the handles.

Made in the USA which is a plus. At least that is what the description says.

Technically it says "Country of Origin: USA", which apparently can also mean "assembled in USA from foreign made parts" or even "shipped in bulk from foreign country but individually Packaged in the USA" from how I've seen it used with other products. The link that Google turns up for the company's web site appears to be down, so who knows?
