Not fond of these wireless wifi/bluetooth probes. I've had one and returned it.

Roast a turkey wrapped in foil - no connectivity. I'm sticking with cheap wired thermometers. Wireless is fine, but transmit from the base the probe is plugged into, not the probe itself.

So the probe cannot transmit thru a thin piece of aluminum foil but sans foil it's able to transmit thru thick steel of these grills/smokers/ovens?

Exactly. My TempSpike transmits fine in the dishwasher and pressure cooker. I have a hard time believing that the aluminum foil blocks signal when steel doesn't. It's not like foil wrapping is air tight whereas the other 2 environments are.
