I've had the R1280T pair for several years. Very pleased. Assuming the R1380T set is basically the same, and that you actually see the $100 price (I don't), you can do a lot worse.

I have my laptop and an Amazon Dot running into these and they are pleasantly-balanced, smooth and stable.

From the reviews when I got mine I expected to have my socks knocked off. That didn't happen. But once I got over my initial disappointment, I realized I still had a good set of small speakers.

My only regret is that I didn't get the Bluetooth version.

As much as I like Edifier I would just wait for a sale on the 1700s. Those are an incredible "bang for your buck" deal anywhere around $140. I've had three sets of powered Edifiers, the most recent of which are the S2000 MKIII, and they have all impressed.
