As such, the only graphics cards which could be considered are those which operate without external power and within the PCIe 75W maximum. The most current such model would be the newest revision of the RTX 3050 [wccftech.com].

so yeah. but watch that low power supply when thinking of upgrades. 180w is pretty weak.
This power supply is a 12 Volt Only style model. That style distinction is significant since although OEMs have started implementing their own versions of ATX 12VO for cost-savings as well as to meet certain efficiency requirements, what is being sold in OEM systems isn't really standardized in the retail space. So if the power supply needs replacement (outside of warranty) or upgrading, this challenge alone will create some issues well beyond a simple drive to Micro Center.
On top of that, there's actually a custom 7-pin PWRCMD connector on the motherboard that comes from the power supply. The motherboard also integrates the front panel connections such as the USB sockets directly onto the motherboard. Though typical for many OEM systems such as those from HP, this also complicates replacement of the motherboard and/or case.
As such, this recommends at least three possible approaches:
Operate this system as a sealed box with limited to power-neutral upgrades for its lifetime (so only swapping in CPUs or GPUs which are supported within the existing power budget). This works for a large group of users and represents the target audience of this kind of pre-built.
Be the kind of DIY-er who cuts into power supply wires, uses custom power supply wire harnesses, or runs dual power supplies in a PC as part of their GPU upgrade (nothing unimaginable, but definitely a niche group).
Ignore this kind of highly custom OEM system in favor of a PC which utilizes standardized motherboards and power supplies.

That cpu is just completely wasted money in this configuration, they crippled it with 8gb ram in single channel mode so why even bother with it? It wasn't a cheap part when this was made, so it makes no sense at all other than to trick a consumer into thinking they're getting better performance than they are.
Why cut the needed dual channel ram just to waste the money for a hdd that this level of user didn't need?
Why cripple it's upgradability with that tiny power supply when the cost difference for a 400w has to be insignificant? Ditch the hdd, include the power supply that would make it upgradeable.
This is beyond planned obsolescence, it's crippled and a marketing trick and just a bad configuration to begin with.
Even though your needs are not high, and you probably are not the type of person who feels like they need to upgrade it, you would be a lot happier with your system and it would be a lot snappier and serve your needs longer if you just bought a single matching used stick of 8gb ram for around $20 and stuck it in there to open up the CPU and integrated GPU speed that is sitting there crippled and unused at the moment.
In single channel mode limited at 8gb you're getting half the performance of what you should be from that system.
That is still not the ideal video card for gaming but is capable of 1080p 60fps low settings in most every game if you do want to game occasionally.
For just general pc use it will be much better than integrated graphics too.
Before buying it I would check the model number on hp's website where you can see the full system specs and make sure it has a 400w power supply in the specs, and if it only comes with one 8gb single stick of ram keep in mind you will still need to install another stick to uncripple it for gaming or just to get it to work full speed at all.
The same thing can be found used almost any day of the week for $250 or even less sometimes if you are capable of your own maintenance.

People have upgraded the one with 400w to rtx 4060 or rx6600 but even that was really stretching the limits of a 400w power supply.

oops I just realized this is 256gb ssd and 2x4gb ram sticks, up to you if that is acceptable or not.
Really should have 16gb ram for gaming and 256gb ssd is really small.

Buy the one that comes with a 500w supply for $450 instead, much cheaper than trying to upgrade the power supply yourself.
