I think this is the one I bought a while back for $99.

I regret buying it every time I use it. Power is weak yet it kills batteries fast.

I've had this saw for a few years. I use it in my construction business. It's nice and light and cuts accurately. The blade is on the side I like. It comes with a nice little fence. I'm not a framer so I rarely need to get out my two battery worm drive saw.

For small home projects (need to cut some butcher block) will this work or should I invest more $? Only see using it a couple times a year

Depends on how thich the block is and if you are trying to get a finish edge.

This saw is more of a precision tool than anything. You can make nice accurate cuts in 3/4 and 5/4 but its not for ripping stuff repeatedly. I've had mine for 10 years and I love it dearly but theres a reason I have 3 circular saws.

If I were to recommend one saw for a home owner without many tools I would say get a track saw.
