700 series toners have chips. Whereas the 600 series toners have no chips.
This just means refilling (or buying remanufactured) cartridges costs a little extra.
For absolute cheapest monochrome printing, you want a Brother printer that uses 600 series cartridges.

Can't believe after what 4 ish years hasn't been anywhere close again
I think the only little drawback is that the toner cartridge it comes with only last a short while but refills are dirt cheap.
All my ink printers (every single one of them I ever owned) clog up and self destruct within a year because I take long breaks between printing stuff and everything dries and clogs in them beyond repair. Always happens when you need to print something urgently and find out your printer shat the bed. I threw out at least half a dozen ink printers in the past few years... they were cheap and all SD kind of stuff but still...
Ever since I got this thing never had a single issue.
I have the one like this that isn't wifi but I just plugged into a raspberry pi, I installed an airprint server on.

Did you use the disk or Windows plug and play driver vs the current driver through the Brother website (Preferred)?
Current firmware? Be careful because this might cause more issues with aftermarket toner.
Go to Settings > Devices > Printers& Scanners > Manage (Brother printer) > Printer Properties > Advanced tab. check/change spooling settings and/or try printing directly to printer.
Just a few things that popped into my head. The pause is strange. I've printed multiple 200+ page duplex documents on my Brother 2270DW printer and it never paused.

I purchased one and had it shipped to me, but when it arrived, it was missing the toner and drum, and had 15 pages printed on the counter. When I tried to register it, it was already registered to somebody else.
