I've been looking for a sale on an N100/16GB/512GB for a DAS/Plex server. This seems to have similar specs. Seems like a decent deal at $170. What am I missing?

Fair deal, but this company is suspect. Look them up on youtube. Apparently, they've had a keylogger issue on the recovery partition a year or two ago. They also do not allow returns, unless defective.

I've heard the N100 systems have poor Linux driver support. Probably more energy efficient though than the older i5-8259U.

N100 for plex?? Dont lol
What reasoning do you have behind this statement? I run a Beelink EQ12 (N100) with VSphere 8.0u2b as downloaded directly from VMware. Three VM's are currently running on it; a Docker box with Pi-hole and several other Docker containers, an OpnSense router for all of my traffic and internet connection (layer 2 switch here for trunk ports on the Beelink box) and last of all.....an Ubuntu LTS Plex server with onboard GPU from the N100 passed through for hardware transcode support. I did have to use the mainline kernel on the Ubuntu box as the old LTS 5.x kernel did not support the Alder Lake GPU on the N100. I can run all of this with at least two remote transode users and one local Plex user at the same time with no issues.

For what it's worth, The N100 GPU also appears to support SR-IOV under VMware, but I don't really have a need to share it with more than one VM, hence the direct pass-through to the Plex VM.

EDIT: I believe you need at least kernel 6.2 for proper support on the iGPU. I'm running the Linux 6.8.0-060800-generic on x86_64 mainline kernel on my Ubuntu box.

Superior CPU performance when compared to N100.

https://notebookcheck.net/Intel-C...640.0.html

Glancing at this, this is Iris Pro 48 EUs, a model with 128 MB eDRAM L4 cache! So I think you could expect better graphics performance, but you lose AV1 decode which you can probably decode in software anyway.

TDP is higher but the N100 can also use 20+ Watts, its 6W TDP is merely a suggestion.

Company may be sus. Pull the trigger at your own risk.

I just bought a GMKtec box on Amazon with a 5800U for around the same price. It has dual 2.5GbE ports which is nice. I'm using mine for an opnsense router. If you are using Plex though, you would need a slightly better CPU or hardware acceleration for transcoding. I believe it's been mentioned in the past that this generation of AMD mobile CPUs didn't have certain hw decoding. Just wanted to share though in case you wanted another option.

Does the USB-C do video, power, and data at the same time, so it can run everything through a dock or hub? (Just hoping for an answer, not technical explanations of Thunderbolt, USB-PD, DP alt-mode 4k30 2k60, bandwidth, etc.)

Is this currently the best mini-PC for < $200 that one can get?
