My local Lowe's has tool chests on sale for 50% off clearance price. I spoke to an associate who said the sale started yesterday, but they were going quickly. Unsure of deals at other locations, but I purchased the top and bottom chest for $380 after tax. They aren't perfect and I'm sure there are better options for others, but this will fit my needs perfectly.
There were other size chests included in this 50% off sale, but YMMV.

One thing I've learned from all my tool chests and cabinets is that the depth dimension is one you want to maximize. All else equal, it is the simplest way to gain extra storage space. I'd only get one with around 24", knowing what I know now.
