This is one of things that sits for months before being used. Good deal but not for me.

I love the idea of it but how much pizza should I consume to justify?

Most home ovens do not get hot enough to make good pizza/crust. Neapolitan for example you need way hotter than 500f

I have an Ooni 16" oven. We use it at least monthly and more often in the summer months. Building a fire and having sufficient wood is always an issue. But it is very enjoyable to have a pizza oven and learn to make good pizza. It's a hobby as much as a way to feed your family. For this price, it seems like an easy entry into good, homemade pizza.

Weekend pizza night! A family can easily spend $40+ on a few pizzas from a local shop. Make it an event. .Find s decent dough recipe and sauce is pretty darned easy.

That said, if a person doesn't use it, waste of money. I usually do cast iron in the oven or occasionally the Blackstone grill in summer.

edit: Here's their recipe book. I have never tried any of these.

How does this compare to a wood oven?

We too have an Ooni and as another posted, I can make the dough in 15 mins, rising is a couple of hours, but some cheese and toppings and each family member gets an amazing custom pizza all told $20. Last take out order we did for pizza was $55...the Ooni pays for itself quickly...and my pizza at least tastes great.

The market is over saturated with pizza ovens and home pizza baking was a fad that peaked during lockdowns. If you are patient, prices will continue to fall and lots of deals will show up on marketplace if you are ok with very lightly used.

Is there anything dumber than an oven you put inside your house (that already has an oven in it) just to make pizza?

You assume we all have ovens. We took ours out due to a burst pipe in 2021 which ruined th wall cabinet that housed it. We have yet to put back in a big oven and we don't miss it. We find that most things can be made in one of those convection toaster ovens which heats up faster, is cheaper to buy, and gives just as good results. I could easily see using this as our current "toaster oven" is limited in size to the pizza it can cook.

That said, I think i would prefer an Ooni, but for this price if it gets hot enough, this could be a good alternative/stop gap.

Typical home ovens top out at 500-550F. This thing gets you to 700, which gets you to Neopolitan territory. You wouldn't buy this thing unless you're a true pizza aficionado (Neopolitan in particular).
