I'm looking for a replacement for my La Crosse BC700 that is finally giving up the ghost. Any suggestions from the hive for something that has the charge/refresh/discharge functionality that the La Crosse had?

looks like this other product uses a separate usb cable charger rather than being able to plug the charger into an ac outlet. from a review: "The included USB-C charging cable makes this lighter and more compact than units with wall warts and can even be plugged into a laptop, though unfortunately,no USB AC adapter is included (but you probably already own several from other devices like phones or headphones)"

Nice charger. I've been a fan of EBL for some time. That said, not everyone needs (wants) a fast charger. Note the Panasonic plugs into AC where the EBL is USB powered. That may make a difference to some, as well. I wish you could charge via the USB port on the Panasonic.

Why would someone give your question a thumbs down? [Haters?!? Maybe not. I tried clicking a "thumbs up" on a comment here and it gave a thumb's down. Not sure why but definitely not the comment I was trying to leave. Wink]

Others have replied with excellent suggestions for a replacement. I've attached picture of some "knock offs" that I bought when my BC700 gave up the ghost. They look a lot like my BC9009 (sitting to the right) but were much cheaper. If you are used to the LaCrosse, there will be little to no learning curve with these cheaper ones. They've done well for me. If you don't mind a larger form factor that can handle a larger variety of sizes and chemistries, look at the larger one pictured. My only complaint of the larger one it is that I can't get the charge/discharge current as low as with the LaCrosse or the knockoffs. I'm from Texas and I like my chargers capable of cooking low and slow.- just like my BBQ.

Good luck with the new charger - whatever you settle on.

That is only for 1.5v AA lithium ion and NiMh. It will not do 18650 or other 3.7v lithium batteries. It may not do other types of 1.5v lithium ion as many use proprietary charging ports or chargers.
A separate issue is EBL batteries and charges over market, and under perform.. Got a bunch, learned the hard way. Not a disaster, just not the bargain they seem.

This charger has actually become my favorite replacement for my old BC700.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1
It does not have an AC power cord. I'm using an old phone charger to power it. It requires a few more button presses (like the Maha /Powerex MH-C9000) to get to different modes and (dis)charge currents but I've liked it. Like the Maha, it gives you a bit more information as you are charging or refreshing. Amazon shows it no longer available. There was a updated model that I almost bought. While I was thinking about it, it also went unavailable.

Several of the other larger form factor chargers do, however show a good bit of information while they are working - like those pictured. There is a feature on the PSPower charger that I like. It has a USB power OUT port so you can use it as an external power bank. Its a bit clunky to use it that way for travel but can still be a handy feature.

Off topic, but how did your BC700's croak?

Buttons become unresponsive. Only the two right slots work.

thanks. looks good; so far haven't seen Li-ion batteries. downside is no usb charger comes with so an extra thing to get for charging. always something i guess, i prefer plugging into the wall without messing around with an extra gismo
