Looks like the black is a Strat, FYI. The Tele model only shows in green for me.

First I've seen of these too. I have a tele made of paulownia i got from Guitar Fetish. Super resonate, super light, but really soft wood. You can press you finger nail into the wood easily.

These are tunes to the bottom three strings, G, B, E so no power chords.

Just so everyone knows, these are VERY MUCH for smaller kids. I'm talking 7 at the oldest. And even then…solely for the purpose of given them something to pluck along with. Give your future self a break and don't teach kids chords on this with only G B E strings.

Don't let any review by a YouTuber trick you into getting it as an adult. It works, but is very much a toy in hand.

No way to make adjustments. The app is also terrible.

Also, there will be massive confusion transitioning from a 3 to 6 string guitar. You'll say "oh, but there are flash cards to help kids recognize the difference!" They won't be able to comprehend that level of music theory transcription.

Moral of the story…mini strats are plenty enough for actual learning.

You can get a mini squier strat right now from Musicians Friend for $149 [musiciansfriend.com]. A far more capable guitar in a small size.

I was able to play one. I don't see why an 8 year old wouldn't be able to.

The three strings keeps it manageable for a kid. If they play this for a year or two, they can definitely make the leap to a real six string.

Giving a kid a piece of crap (telescope, hockey skates, guitars) is a GREAT way to sour their experience right out of the gate. NO, you don't need to by a Custom Shop for a kid, but as you point out there are fine options much better than this training-wheels gimmick approach. I would also add that for $199 you can get an entry level 6 string squier. Kids can adjust and, guess what, they GROW... FAST. As if the many guitar child prodigies started on a kiddie guitar... nope.

Don't buy this crap. Get a real 6 string from monoprice for half this cost and put the rest towards lessons.

As a guitarist, I think you'd do a better service to that child with the Fender Mini. It's a 3/4 guitar with ALL the strings. It's in the same price range too.
