A general note to Slickdeals: DC barrel jacks ought to be listed under Ports. So many laptops charge only via USB-PD, but some support both charging methods. (For this laptop, it's obviously to me that it does also have a DC barrel port, as the USB-PD limit of 65 watts is not suitable for a laptop with a 4070.)

16GB soldered kind of kills the deal for me. There's not many gaming situations where you'd need more than 16GB of system RAM, but anyone buying this computer will probably be using it for a few years and I'm sure those situations will popup at some point in the near future. I also personally need more than 16GB for work.

The search for a small, do everything laptop that's also a decent price continues.

Interesting. My experience has been the opposite with the Slim 5.
What was your experience with it? Got the legion slim as well and on the fence about keeping.

No. Soldered. 1 ssd slot only as well
That's a bummer. With that CPU and GPU, expandability could be a factor for many. But, it is definitely a solid deal.

Solder RAM kills it.

The 4070 is nice, upper mid tier.

Yeah, but with a zip coupon and payment method. At this price I think that nothing comes even close, not even the $1049 oled legion slim 5i.
I bought it for my son from Newegg via Zip on that deal. Build quality is nice, beautiful screen, independent RGB lighting is cool, it's quite compact and light for a gaming laptop, and battery is about what you'd expect but be prepared for room-filling fan noise.

I knew the battery wasn't going to be great considering discrete GPU and OLED but it was pretty bad. Fans were loud as hell too but that's just about every laptop outside of Macs.

It didn't impress me at all (sad), so it went back.
Discrete GPU doesn't matter for battery life unless you're gaming on battery. The laptop will use the integrated graphics when on battery unless you configure it to always use the dedicated GPU.

The CPU, RAM, and screen matter for battery life.

This has a 4070 the legion has a 4060
Hence why I said that the acer is an unbeatable deal, because so far the best deal on a thin and light laptop was the legion 5 14" for $1049.

Not bad laptop with premium build and upper tier screen...but it has both soldered ram and 1 ssd slot and 4070 gets only 11000 graphics score. I have chosen Slim 14 with oled and 7840hs/4060, at least it has second ssd slot and looks like additional ram chips may be soldered manually as it has 32gb version.

Yes, fan noise on these Acer predators is wild. I have the 16-inch version with 11th gen CPU. Build quality and sturdiness is amazing, but these get extremely hot and loud. I also own a legion 5 with ryzen7 and 4060, and a 2023 g14. The latter 2 are quiet in comparison, let that sink in for everyone.

I just bought Asus TUFF with a 4060 and USB-C PD charging port up to100 watts. It seems like this charging option will not work as a complete replacement of the standard charger with DC barrel jack. When I plug in the USB-C 100W PD charger, the laptop shows a warning that this is not sufficient when GPU is enabled and will shorten the battery life after extensive use. As far as I can tell, this is a typical experience for gaming laptops and there are many cases of batteries needing a replacement a year after being charged exclusively with USB-C PD.

Actually the 5th gen AeroBlade 3D fan + liquid metal thermal grease in this laptop does a really good job of keeping things cool but that fan noise is borderline unbearable...highly recommend wearing headphones while using this thing.

Gee, thanks.

Battery life is bad on this laptop no matter how you look at it. Of course battery life isn't bad if it's plugged in.

Was also too loud for me, even when not gaming.

Will just be looking for something different or just end up with a Mac in the end. I'll stick to gaming on my desktop.
