I have had this mini PC since last BF. This is a very good price, better than when I bought it. I am running Win11Pro with 32 GB RAM, 2 TB NVMe SSD and a 2 TB 2.5 inch SATA HDD. I run no games, but office and video editing apps without any concerns. Recommended if this fits your needs.
Not sure where SD took the photos from, but check the website for the correct pics of this PC. The one on the post shows 1 Ethernet port, the wrong display ports, and the front is different.
For a lot of ppl, the tinyPC form factor is ideal for Homelab stuff. It's powerful, compact, (relatively) low power usage for 24/7 running. You could make this a monster plex server or throw on proxmox and spin up VMs until you choke those 2.5GB nics. Ok no, in reality that 64GB mem cap would prolly be the limiting bit, but this would make for a very capable VM host.

Or just use it for a non-gaming desktop. Plenty of power. Minisforum has been killing it with the deals lately.

This is an interesting comment to me. Even assuming there are enough games that benefit from 32GB of RAM over 16, I really wonder whether any of them can run on a 680M, or whether any of them would get to the point where they need 32GB while running on a 680M.
The 680m is perfectly capable of delivering a console-like locked 30fps experience in almost all modern games at 1080p at Medium to Medium High settings or more, depends on the game obviously. The nice thing about the 6900 is that you can run faster ram than the stock 4800mt/s, and that will improve the 680m in doing so, more frames per second.

If you won't accept less than a locked 60, you can drop details and perhaps go to 900p or 720p resolution and get that too, it's up to you. APU's share their VRAM and CPU RAM, so when you buy 32g you're really buying ram for 2 devices as the GPU will eat up 3-8 gigs of that on most modern games.

Can someone attest to the longevity of these miniPCs? My father needs a new web browsing PC, his currently one is an old Dell Optiplex with a 4th gen i5. I did just buy another refurb Dell with a 10th gen i7 and 32GB of ram for about $400.

This is SOOO overkill for that use case. I'd recommend a lower-spec unit. I use this for my home lab, running (5) VMs and all my services in my home.

See my answer above. This is a maybe. My legion go has usb 4 ports and it is working with my eGPU with a 3070 in it.

I've read that some people have issues with an amd cpu + usb 4.0 + a thunderbolt eGPu because the usb 4 ports aren't TECHNICALLY "Thunderbolt" per se.

But it seems to work fine on my Legion Go.
If it is a USB 4 port and specified as such it MUST be backward compatible w/ TB3. The question is the cable, firmware, the TB bridge chip, and compatibility in the eGPU chassis. Because an eGPU has a bridge chip also there could be software incompatibility issues. My take is read the forums and let someone else fall on their sword first.

Also and this is important you MUST have a high quality TB3/USB4 cable that is no more than 1m. I bough USB 4 Orico from the express and were like $15 and they work 100% in my multiple TB setups. I even had purported US name brand TB3 cable flake and when I put this in--no issues. Although they were 1.5m. Length matters in higher bandwidth applications like video (keep it as short as possible).

Tough Call. The upgrade from Vega to 680m is significant, 20-25+ more FPS like-for-like settings. The upgrade from 680m to 780m is more like 2-10 fps, of course this is going to vary by game, some games show a better gain. You can probably overclock a 6950hx easily to 780m speeds, but you're generating more heat and pulling more power and your fan will be doing its thing harder. Gotta be honest, neither of these options is a "full settings 60fps all the time!" chipset, maybe consider the 680m, overclock it...and if it doesn't work out, add a $99 dollar eGPU adapter from aliexpress and run it via USB 4.0. Sure, now you're building a sloppy looking desktop but.....its also an option for that same $100 bucks you're considering spending. All of this is IMHO, I own a 7735hs with a 680m that won't overclock myself, my 780m knowledge comes from YouTube game comparisons and others posting about them on the web.

Concerning the Plex server, you would have to put the media on external USB 3 enclosures/drives?

I'm running one with 96gb ram and proxmox.

Don't worry about the 64gb "limit".

Hi suryasis!!!
Do you know how to determine whether the USB 4 USB C Alt DP ports can each (each single port) support multiple monitors at 4K@60 through each single port?
Thank you

Yeah, I was hesitant at first but I just bit the bullet and went with it and it happened to work out.

My eGPU was previously connected to my laptop (which has a tb4 port) and I was worried that there would be an issue due to all of the reviews.

But it worked out fine. I am currently taking the 10% performance hit going through the EGPU but Im not really playing AAA titles anyway. I like the adaptability of being able to dock and get more GPU juice or undock and and play on the go.

Not sure I understand your question correctly. Are you asking each single USB4 port supporting how many 4K monitors at 60Hz?

No, the iGPU alone does not worth that much. But 780M copmes with Zen4 based Ryzen 7 and 9 Processors which perform good amount better than these Zen 3 based CPUs. So, the overall CPU and GPU performance increase may justify the increased price. But if you're looking for that, I would suggest the EliteMini UM780 XTX which can be found around $429 from Minisforum and has one extra feature called OcuLink.
