Meanwhile...it's gone very quiet surrounding the long rumored Google standard trackers despite software hooks being inserted into Android for them. Sure there are a lot of Galaxy devices out there (mine included) but I've held out getting these things bc of the long rumored "works with anything Android" ones. Are those still coming? I know part of the delay was Google wanting to lock down the privacy aspect more than Apple did with theirs, no?

Another reason why Google's Find My Device network seems so similar to Apple's network is that both are compatible with third-party tracker tags.
So going by the article, these Samsung trackers should work on Google's network when it eventually launches - whenever that is.
So far, Samsung build a competing network, so while all devices that support Google Play services are expected to work with Google's tag the first two gens of SmartTag will likely be limited to devices supporting SmartThings Find.
