Thanks, OP. I'm wondering if New Jersey has something similar. 🤔

Anyone know where to get free solar eclipse glasses in NJ? I would appreciate it.

A good portion of upstate NY is in the path of totality and they're expecting a massive influx of tourists next week.

NJ residents who want to see totality will have to drive to NY (or PA), so just pick up your glasses on the NY Thruway on your way upstate. Smilie

Here is some information regarding New Jersey

https://www.northjersey.com/story...747799007/

There are 13 Warby Parker stores in New Jersey, hopefully one of them is close to you as they are giving away free eclipse glasses.

There is also some nationwide program with NASA giving public libraries free glasses too.
There is a directory in the article to narrow down the search. The participating libraries may also be out of stock by now?

scroll the map for list of libraries in new jersey which may participate.

Many libraries have them for free too. Just ask at the desk. https://www.scigames.org/eclipse/map/

I'm in the path of 100% totality and I swear every single grocery store and gas station has a display set up. Walmart, too. Everyone's trying to make so much money off this eclipse, it's almost hard to believe glasses are difficult to find for anyone.

I'm one of those fools making a track from northern Illinois to the Indianapolis area to see the total eclipse on 4/8. Reading your post, I just realized that a parking lot of a Walmart would be a fantastic location for the solar eclipse. Especially in the burbs of Indianapolis, you'd have no other tall structures to block your view!

They will probably be sold out in advance. I forsee a lot of burned retinas. I would not want to count on picking up glasses the day before or goodness forbid the day of.

I don't think it's foolish at all. When people tell me that this solar eclipse is no big deal and it happens every few years anyway, I just look at them sideways and switch to my Neil deGrasse Tyson voice.

Population in my city is going to double from 160k to 320k+ that day so I don't plan to really go out in public. It's going to be absolutely insane in so many areas. But yeah, an open parking lot would be nice, just not sure how much better the experience is going to be, unless you're trying to see some planets that you otherwise wouldn't be able to. Be safe, in any case.

I don't think I would go to a commercial parking lot with lights. If the parking lot lights are activated with a darkness sensor, that'll kill the experience.
