A little practice and it is pretty easy to avoid. You can absolutely launch lures with a bait caster, hence the name.
I got the right-handed, looks like the reviews aren't as terrible and worth the low price to give baitcasters a try
There is a learning curve, but it's not that bad if you enjoy fishing and have the time and patience.
If fishing lures, I just enjoy throwing baitcasters more.
If you're just soaking bait or don't have the time to spend learning (I.e. you just want to go out and not have to deal with fumbling with your gear), nothing at all wrong with sticking with spinning reel.
Watch some videos to properly set ul a baitcaster. Get some cheap mono line and practice casting with brakes on pretty aggressively. Your thumb will be key unless you go with higher end reel with better brakes. A lot of new baitcasters are actually pretty hard to birdies on.
