Seems more for a small business so you can write off the annual subscription. Per the comments, "One note for you to get the most benefits of it's security features you will need to buy the annual subscription for about $300."

I would suggest this

https://protectli.com/

Starts at $159 and uses open source software to work and doesn't have any annual fees.

Would this offer anything over a DIY OPNSense or PFSense router?

NGFW vs statefull. Sophos offers their enterprise firewall completely free for home users if you want to "play" without spending the cash. I would hesitate to buy grey market network equipment from amazon. Support can be problematic and may even cause licensing issues if you went down that path. https://www.sophos.com/en-us/free...me-edition

Hope you're not calling a fortigate from blue ally in Amazon grey market. They're one of the largest pimps for these types of things. This would 100% register and wouldn't give you complication. They sell every product from Palo to Fortigate. If you wanted this device, blue ally would be a good choice. By the way. I hate the company and fortigate sucks.

You mean you hate Fortinet? What do you suggest for small office instead?

Can't comment, tried them all. Use Opnsense or something, I'm trying watchguard somewhere for small business but I use and have used them all here or there, Sophos Xg sucks cause their 17,18,19 versions were horrifyingly slow and fortinet couldn't keep a login page secure.. imagine paying tens of thousands on a licensed fortigate to get compromised from the login page.

Another vote for Sophos. Installed it as a VM in a proxmox (old desktop PC, i5, 16GB of RAM, 2 mirrored 500GB SSD drives) running the firewall, ubuntu ELK server for fw logs, and pihole.
It is free, low memory/CPU footprint (2.4 of RAM, 2 virtual cores, 10-12% CPU utilization), supports SSL decryption, user captive portal, FQDN and country as Geo objects, multiple ISP links for redundancy, VPN, applications as L7 objects etc. Excellent backup/restore capabilities.
I used to run a Fortinet 60C unit, I liked it simplicity and troubleshooting/diag CLI commands. Sophos is more advanced. I am surprised they are giving this away for free.

Edit: forgot to add, Elastic is offering integration with Sophos syslogs, which are excellent.

Didn't catch the reseller was BlueAlly. Thanks for correcting the grey market comment!
