Not to be debby downer but am I the only one not seeing this as a good deal? Are yall paying for the name?

Aluminum fork, cheap kenda tires, advent, mechanical brakes.

This is a Wal mart ozark trail bike ($250) without the brand.

Yea right. Is this what I'm seeing too?

Doesn't say but looks like 9mm QR whereas the Redwood has a thru axle. The drivetrain says "Shimano" but the shifter in the picture is LTWOO brand. I'd be willing to bet the only thing Shimano on that bike is the derailleur. I would take a Microshift drivetrain any day over that setup. Also 2x7, you may like that, you may not. The redwood is a 1x. Seeing as the cassette is a 7 speed, there's an outstanding chance it's a freewheel whereas the Redwood has a freehub. Tapered vs straight headtube. Does the Ozark Trail internal routing for a dropper? I can't tell as there's no mention of it. In fact, not much about the specs or geometry are mentioned. Also that frame seems to only come in medium, and it doesn't seem to actually be available anywhere? Again, no mention of rim size, but likely the rims are a bit less wide than the Redwood's given the stock tire size on each. Comes down to preference, sure, but I don't think the quality difference between the bikes is negligible at all. It may very well be that the Ozark Trail is a better buy for you given your preferences and budget, but I truthfully don't see it being as reliable or durable, given the differences between the two platforms and components. I've bought a Walmart bike in the past that make many of these sacrifices in quality, and upgrading ended up costing a lot more than 500 when all was said and done - and no matter what that bike is forever stuck with a 9mm QR, so it wasn't really a worthwhile investment when I could have just bought into a better platform to begin with. With that said, amazing to be able to buy a gravel bike at either of these price points. What a time to be alive.

The drivetrain is the most obvious difference to me. All cheap bikes come with 2x or 3x drivetrains.

Great bike at the $900 price, $500 is a dang steal.

For the people that can't tell the people between this and a walmart bike, they don't know anything about bikes

But still the Poseidon hype is the reason for the price differential right? QR isn't a deal killer, people have been using QR for a lot longer than thru axles and yes all my mountain bikes have Thru axles but the Poseidon is prob just as heavy or even heavier than the Ozark - the cost differential could be spent on a better drive train and brakes and the Ozark would blow the Poseidon away.
That and a new rear wheel + cassette. In my experience the rear wheel on these Walmart bikes are typically a hot mess. Maybe I've just been unlucky, but in my experience the freewheel makes a nice grinding sound out of the box, and tends to stick, sometimes to the point of causing chain drops just from peddling backwards or coasting at higher speeds. Typically every bearing on the bike is unsealed (although we don't know for sure because they don't say). I personally don't agree that it would it blow either of the Poseidons away although I believe it could be a capable bike - however we don't even know what the geometry of the Ozark Trail is. Also I'd be surprised if you could do all of the required upgrades for under $250. To me personally, 9mm is a deal breaker when thru axle is available at a similar price point. For me taking the wheel off is an unavoidable part of life (sometimes a daily routine if you use the bike indoors and outdoors) and thru axle is so much easier to deal with. I'm definitely not putting down the Ozark Trail, it looks like a great bike for someone just dipping their feet. However for someone who can stretch their budget and already knows they love cycling, I think they're just going to be happier with the Poseidon for the money, and I think it will have a lower total cost of ownership as it likely won't need a new wheelset after a few hundred miles. With that said you made some good points - the up front cost of the Poseidon is twice the price of the Ozark Trail. That might be a big enough difference to deter someone from ever riding in the first place. Also I'd imagine you're spot on about the weight - both probably need tubeless folding tires to help shed some weight.

Different bike, but that's Ozark looks reasonable for the price. Walmart should get some their bikes and stock a Ozark brand 29 and 27.5 front suspension MTB, a gravel bike, and road bike in 3 or 4 sizes. It would meet the needs of most of the people that would buy a bike there.

Microshift Advent X 1x10 dropbar setup installed itself is worth $250 and is great. Not the same as very cheap 1x8 microshift derailleur Walmart bikes sometimes have. Redwood has verified tubeless compatible wheelset with thru axle frame. Easily adjustable 2 piston mechanical brakes. Clear routing for dropper. Can fit 27.5 or 29" wheels. Elite customer support. Has normal bottom bracket and seatpost sizing + is listed along with geometry with various sizing. List goes on…spare parts can order.

Redwood stock is 29lbs with heavy but good feel kenda tires. Get gravel tires setup tubeless it weighs 26 lbs. Will be compatible with upgrading wheels. I found very nice used 700C (redwood can fit both sizes) for $150 cause most higher end gravel wheels use standard 12 thru axle. Redwood can fit 27.5 x 2.6 tires.

The X stock which is more like the Ozark as traditional gravel bike weighs 25lbs if trying to make comparison. They only have medium size on last call.

Poseidon 'hype' is real deal and not reflected in their price vs any other big brand - $500 is insane. Elite customer service and actually holding true to warranty like broken wheels.

I have a friend with the Poseidon and he had some issues with the brakes and derailleur so it's not definite that it will be reliable just because it's a hype brand. I see your point though, guess I'm just basing it off my friends redwood I wasn't impressed.

Is this a good bike for riding level gravel trails in town and some pavement going to and from work?
