Look at a small company called Accurasee Mechanical out of Canada.
This particular unit is an all-in-one ERV that replaces the functionality of a normal exhaust fan. Normally, ERVs are a large unit that you install in a utility space and splice it into the central HVAC system (or run separate ducts).
I really do hate that about some domestic products. Many smaller outfits seem to be using high quality building blocks but the products honestly seem half baked and cost 400% more than other name brand products which are manufactured overseas.

If you have an older sticks and bricks home, you are probably getting complete air exchanges regularly simply from all the leaks through your windows, doors, outlets, vents, etc.

For example; this device is suited to be used instead of a bathroom exhaust fan. With a normal fan out will be exhausting air that is assumedly at the temperature you paid to get it to; which will in turn pull in cooler or hotter air from all of the air leaks in the home.
With an hrv/erv, you'll at least recover some of the heat/cold when replacing the air.
They also have an impact on humidity which can be important depending on your environment.
They are simple devices, but understanding if and why you might want one does require a little thinking.
