Heads up though, DD didn't refund me for an undelivered order for the first time ever once I had a gift card balance. I am assuming they knew I couldn't charge back the order since it wasn't paid for by credit card.
Never buying another gc and paying by cc from now on.
I ended up contacting the BBB, and DD refunded me there.
I've had plenty of instances where an order was wrong or missing items, and I've never had a problem getting credits for those items even when carrying GC balances in excess of $100. If they are indeed clamping down, then maybe the advice of paying with CC so that you can charge back is still a good one, but attributing that it happened specifically because you had a GC balance is probably overthinking it.

However, I definitely can't say it wasn't coincidence. It just seemed unlikely to be coincidence. Like you, after years of DD and a number of delivery issues where I got the refund easily, it was only this time now that I used a gift card balance they suddenly weren't willing to refund me.

Try a different account. Your account probably blacklisted from entering too many invalid cards earlier.
Happened to me with grubhub when I had trouble reading a shitty scratched physical gc.
Most these cards are provisioned through Cashstar and a privileged CS rep should be able to refund you and deactivate card once they verify it still holds a balance
At least some of your order has to be paid for with your dash pass credit card to get the benefits.

I find this to be the exact opposite for me. Almost every restaurant near my location charges me the same whether it's pickup or delivery.
