If you can stomach an unnamed brand, you can find a $40 8-port 2.5 gbits switch on Alieexpress. If you ask how I know - cause I just ordered two myself.
The same as any other device, good firewall rules.
How do you know they are not sending data packets back to mothership?

What is NAS support? Is there a switch that doesn't support NAS?

If you just need 4 2.5Gb ports and 2 10gb SFP+ ports, these are $38 with a prime account on Amazon right now. I've deployed a couple of them for non-critical use and they have been working fine for about a year.

No point in buying this for APs with 2.5G POE ports because it lacks 10G SFP+ uplinks. Plenty of other makes/models in this price range have 1 or 2 SFP+ ports supporting 10G..
Yea that's what I'm saying. Don't buy this and get the POE version instead that has either 10GBe ports or SFP+. I'm not sure if any are on Amazon yet, but you can find them on aliexpess.

I did find this one.

Here are some of the models I've seen, but others exist too.

Understood. Most don't because they don't have time or don't know what a real deal it is. Those that do post are the ones that save us the regret ("ragret" on We Are The Millers).

Nope.
1. Quality lower even than TP-Link (which just OK, not the best).
2. No PoE.

What a dumb comment.

I have TPLink GbE switches that cost $15 two decades ago still in use, and my Deco mesh has been absolutely rock solid for over 5 years. When everyone else made unreliable WiFi crap that dropped connections, TPLink made the most stable WiFi adapters around. If you think TPLink has a quality problem, the problem is you.

And whining about it not having PoE at this price point ... really?

Purchased this on 3/24 for half the price, as another commenter said it had a 50% off coupon price on top of this sale price so I purchased it for $44.61 after tax. has worked perfectly for my use case

I built out a full TPLink Omada home network with router, switches, 3 APs. Chose it over both Unifi and Aruba and couldn't be happier. I love their SDN.

I had this switch. And I had to return it 3x. It started out doing 2.5Gb for a week or 2. But then dropped to 1Gb on the upload. I gave up and got a refund. I couldn't find updated firmware to fix the issue.

I had another brand do the same thing as well. So make sure to test it a few times within the return period. However you might not notice it if your upload isn't very high.

Because they are unmanaged layer 2 switches (no IP address, no routing). I guess they could make it a layer 3 and send packets but if you want to spend more for switches that are still made in China... Maybe Taiwan made switches are more trustworthy?

I'm curious now... Can you forward packets without an IP address? Please tell me. I love my packets!
Nope, you're correct - the device would need an IP address/configuration, which, as you noted, an unmanaged switch doesn'f have. Even if the device were to, nefariously, be developed to send data "back to the mothership", it would still have to get a DHCP address, which woulld show up/log in your router, or spoof/grab valid IP address and settings for your network. Otherwise, yhe device would have to have its own access (cell radio, etc.) to trasmit data out of band.

How do you set this up? I just got this unit in place today and this was my concern, however, I'm not network savvy and not sure of the wording to search for instructions.

I searched "how to prevent switch from sending unwanted traffic" and didn't get anything helpful at first glance.

TIA!

Short answer is you can't. Anyone trying to gain access can use a VPN to hide themselves anyway. This is not a managed switch so you can't create a VLAN and I'm sure you want the devices connected to this switch to have internet access. Best thing you can do is get a good router/firewall and keep it updated.
