OK. Well, some of us have little to no arch. For me personally, running just a half mile always made my knees and (oddly) the tops of my feet hurt. I am very much in shape.
Once learning that low arch = pronation (outwards foot rotation), I recorded a video with my phone behind a treadmill while I ran on it, and sure enough my right foot pronates. So I jumped on the recent Hoka Arahi 6 deal which is a well-cushioned arch support shoe. I've now run a mile three separate times without any pain.
Don't knock it 'til you try it.
You put entirely too much thought into this. Chill out.
Cool stories. But after trying at least 6 different types of running shoe, the Bondi was the first pair that I could do lots of miles in and not have pain in my feet and back. I'm 45 which is pretty old but not elderly.

Says cool story, then proceeds to tell a personal anecdote. Ironic.
Ill never wear Hokas. Not after the debacle the pulled with everyone on SD ordering their shoes at a steep discount...then threatening those who had shoes shipped before they could cancel. Scumbag company.

Maybe lots of us, found that it runs through my family. Overpronation shoes definitely helps.
These are stability running shoes for people that over pronate their feet while running. If you normally wear a neutral running shoe these might not work for you.
I bought these the last time they were onsale. They are ugly as hell and bulky but feel great to run in. I run / walk 3-5 miles on a gravel trail and these are the only shoes that dont make my feet / knees hurt
I have a couple of pairs of these. Like the way they look with sportswear and I use them at the gym, but DAMN do my feet hurt after wearing them for a while. I'm not sure if my feet pronate too much and it's trying to correct or what, but the arches of my dogs get angry if I wear them too long.
I went back to the Brooks GTS series. If you have long/wide toes that's the brand you want.
This shoe is wide. Regular will be fine. I have wide feet and these are big on me. They are definitely wider than bondi or regular arahi and they give a bit so while ymmv I think these are probably the widest regular hoka I have tried esp this version. I have it In this color and the blue. I wish I could still find the blue color somewhere even at full price

I'm a bit confused. I was under the impression "pronation" was inward...ie the foot rotates towards the ball and big toe and "supination" was towards the outside...ie little toe
