Unfortunately, it just doesn't have enough power on bare floors or for tasks that demand more suction. I ended up getting an older refurb Dyson with the fluffy roller for our bare floors, and use a Ryobi battery attachment. A little weird looking, but works great!

I did have to get a little creative with securing it since the one mounting screw didn't offer the best stability. But everyone has tape =D
Yours looks okay, I paid attention to the reviews (as usual).
It's $199 direct from Dyson itself right now, no reason to pay $300. Not too shabby IMO since it's just their normal deal, not even an SD price.

I searched the reviews with the keyword 'dyson' and the majority of the 60 results actually preferred the Ryobi vac over the Dyson. There are also reviews on YouTube comparing if you want to see an in-depth comparison.
I have this Ryobi after watching the YouTube vids and the suction is amazing, they must have done something similar to Dyson and with the dual brush roller it is very effective.
From what I saw online, the warranty on the Ryobi vac, plus not having to use an aftermarket adapter I took the chance knowing I could return it immediately if it didn't meet my needs and now it's my wife and I's favorite vacuum.
There are features you can get on the various Dysons that may be better than this, but some we are happy with on the Ryobi are that it stands upright on its own, the button to turn on and stay on, and that it starts up on high automatically.
It's not just that though. The Dyson is much better for crevices and in places like the car where even though it's carpet, the Ryobi powered brushes can't get to much. The Ryobi just does not have the suction of the Dyson and that was my primary complaint. The Dyson, although it's an older model, is a big step up in that department. I imagine the 8 (and newer models) are even better.

Dyson you evil geniuses...
To be fair (cue Letterkenny), the Max setting draws quite a bit of power out of the battery and you have to be careful to give the Dyson a 4ah (or more) semi-recent Ryobi battery if you want the vac to be able to draw enough Amperage in Max mode. Otherwise the vac powers off quickly as the battery can't sustain the current draw. Still, it's not hard to pair a decent battery with it.
FWIW, Sharks are great! I just need an excuse to use some of these Ryobi batteries, haha.
