Got my 699 order canceled 3 times and lost my interest at 799, as it is a 2 year old machine and even though it matches the 4060 model in raw graphics performance, it's not that appealing anymore for 799, still I would dare to say it's the best value nowadays, because for this money you can only find crappy 4050 laptops, but idk, after seeing for 699 and getting the order canceled 3 times kinda soured it for me.
This is the 2022 model, the 2023 model (with a 4060 and a big boost from 6 series to 7 series AMD) is $999 at Best Buy and can be found open box excellent for $850. That's the sweet spot over this and the 2024 model. ($1599, better screen, completely soldered RAM, same CPU performance, lower GPU performance due to limited power provided to the GPU).
It's the slickest I've seen in a while, that's why I said I just can't justify paying 799 + tax now lol
Ended up settling for the acer predator Triton 14 for 1199(50% more money) for a much better screen, around 35-40% more GPU(6800s vs 4070) performance and better cpu performance for roughly the same form factor(aside from the huge power supply on the acer).
Thought the 6800S would be an ok performer but seems like its basically right around a 4050 in performance if I'm seeing the game benchmarks correctly here: https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD...207.0.html
Lots of benchmarks it's right on par with 4050 and slower than 4060. Thought it would be more around a 4060 in performance.
I guess the real selling point of this is it's a G14.

This one has Anime Matrix if you are interested in that gimmick. The $699 one doesn't have it if you were referring to the Ph model.
At $789 it's a bad deal imo. Better off going for the 4060 at that point for the better display, faster and more efficient cpu, and nvidia gpu. Something to note is how much AMD neglects their mobile processors this won't age well vs the 4060.

I agree the only downside is the vram on the 4050. 6 gb will be very strained on new AAA titles and at this price point it doesn't make much sense to skimp out on $100 bucks to not get 8gb at least.
The cpu is also weaker on the 4050 model and only runs the 680m igpu. Not a huge deal but if you ever wanted to do low powered gaming off battery that's something you'll be missing as well. $100 more for the 4060 is the move imo.

Are we looking at the same charts?
The 4050 is 30% slower in CP2077 and FH5 at 1440P, This trades blows with the 4060, not the 4050.

I saw a video where you can add 32GB but "only" 32 out of the 40 is recognized.
I'm assuming a 24GB stick if those exist would be the good option ?

The CS74 with Anime was sold at 699 last Friday. Mine is arriving tomorrow.

Not worth the upgrade, around 10% at most.
