Will this work with Princess (owned by Carnival) as well? I tried the code on a Princess GC but didn't work.

No, join AARP they sell 8% off cards. Each line has different rules for gc redemption so check first.

I paid for my last princess cruise that way.

Not exactly. Both Princess Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line are owned by Carnival Corporation. Separate entities, separate assets and liabilities, so they won't take each other's GCs.
