I have to say VERY impressed for a midrange receiver.
Even in a smaller room with some bookshelf and satellite old Mirage speakers Dirac RC sounds good.

For reference the Denon X3800 failed the ASR tests as well
But $2,800 is a tough pill to swallow for some.
That's why I went with the RZ50 with an external amp instead

From personal ownership of Denon, Marantz, Yamaha etc I think they sound the same with no room correction engaged
With room correction engaged( if they use different types) I will say I can hear differences
Years ago when Onkyo used Audyseey XT32, I went from an Onkyo pre pro to a Marantz pre pro and could tell no differences in the sound between the two.
Yes...speakers are a very different animal and there are better( and highly subjective) choices for the people that are more movie focused and those that are more music focused.

should you want the multi-sub bass control module license add another $499 to the denon price (Not available on RZ50, but is available on the RZ70).

So the difference is really $300-350 more.
If a few hundred more dollars is not an issue over that then I say buy the RZ70 which has been $1800 ish.
That unit is more comparable to the Denon X6800 . In fact the RZ70 has the same DACs and
comes very close in amp bench testing to the $6500 Denon A1H .

Regardless, the 3800 offers other variables the RZ70 does over this and more.
As someone pointed out turning off internal amps(preamp mode).
The 3800 lets you turn off all 11 channels individually.
All 11 channels are assignable, 10 & 11 on this are not.
All 4 sub outputs are independent, on this the 2 are parallel & the RZ70 only 2 are the other 2 run parallel.
This will not offer Dirac Live Bass Control, the RZ70 does as does the 3800(same cost).
This is assuming you need Dirac since they are very comparable.
After all people often compare Dirac to Audyssey for a reason.
Finally getting a chance to compare Audyssey & Dirac, some may not need it especially with Audyssey's new Directional integration.
It works on the same theory behind DLBC.
