I've tried that 3M edge molding in the past. A few things to consider:
1) It's super thin. Might be exactly what you want but not a lot of protection.
2) When you remove the backing it's going to try and curl making installation tricky. Not impossible, but very tricky.
3) Wear gloves. If you touch the backing with your fingers you're going to see finger prints.
4) This is only 3 feet. Enough for a small 2 door, but not enough for larger 4 doors or trucks, especially if you cover the entire vertical edge.
I switched to this:
1) 980, 4.4 star rating
2) $11 for 16 feet or $16 for 32 feet (great if you have multiple vehicles)
3) VERY easy to install and you can handle it without fear of fingerprints
4) 3M tape backing so it stays in place
5) Much thicker to actually protect the edge
