Gold won't do you much good at the height of a crisis. That's when food, water, medical supplies, weapons, alcohol, tobacco, etc. will be the primary bartering tools. No crisis lasts for long, though, and when society stabilizes, the gold will help you get a head start in the new economy. Basically, if the US dollar falls apart, you can use your precious metals to buy whatever new currency replaces it.

If a major crisis never occurs, gold will very slowly climb in value, more or less matching inflation. It's a very safe investment, but with extremely low yield compared to traditional investment opportunities, so gold should only make up a small percentage of your investment portfolio (it's a financial final line of defense).

Exec membership gets 2% back, and Costco Citi card gets an additional 2% off. Plus you get the float on the credit card. No other dealer comes close.

Serious question, what's the point of collecting gold?

I don't think most people here realize that they can earn a yield on physical gold (ie Monetary Metals). Free shipping and insurance. And safekeeping. I believe 3.5%-19% annual historically. Not for everyone but a missed opportunity for some.

LMAO, people buying things they don't need and end up regretting their purchases later. Yikes.
Gold prices fluctuate like any investment. Buying physical gold isn't as profitable as other means, but the shiny designs are kind of cool.

Gold:
November 1, 2023 - $1987
March 28, 2024 - $2231

That's a 12% increase in 5 months.

Hello everyone.

I am new to buying Gold. I have a dumb question, after I buy a Gold piece from Costco, If I need money where can i sell it to get the most of it? ( I heard that I could bring around the pawn shops, but will they low ball me? ) Is there any reputation shop where I can sell Costco Gold for the most?
Generally coin shops around here are best... especially if they are busy higher volume shops... you can call around to a couple places, and they'll likely tell you to come in, but may be able to give you a range... tell you they are paying spot give or take based on year and condition... also they're more likely to pay more if you seem like a repeat seller or customer... let them know your crazy uncle has a collection and he's getting up in years and is starting to distribute it amongst his family...

Google "gold brokers" near me. I have several in my area. Online precious metal brokers also buy, but I don't know which offers the best prices.

So people buy this and then just hang on to it an then hope down the road they can sell it? Who buys these things third party for anywhere near this price?

I know from people selling wedding rings and stuff they buy it for $3000 and then can't sell it for more than $300.

The alloy market was reviewed well. I've never used them, and they may be paying for those spots. Their focus seems to be junk jewelry and scraps.

Their garentee is:
Alloy guarantees a minimum payout of 75% of the spot melt value for precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum and palladium. We also offer a 90.5% minimum guarantee for 24K gold or bullion.

90% of spot floor for a current year US coin seems very expensive to send it... If I was going that route I may call to see if they'd be over spot for these, and save everyone the time and effort.

For survivial types gold will do nothing for you. YOu think that you will "survive" but others wont. Gold is a safe investment compared to what? One gold coin is going to start your life in a new economy? In a crisis people come to get your gold so they can do nothing with it. If this was the 1800s it might be different. Somebody must be doing some serious online spin about gold as some sort of safety net.
While I agree that gold is of little value in an extinction-level event, there are plenty of bad economic scenarios that could play out which don't involve marauding bands of raiders in the street.

Fiat currency is remarkably fragile, and it's nice to have something to fall back on if people lose faith in "pretend" money through runaway inflation [investopedia.com].

You just described all of commerce... yeah, you buy them to sell them eventually... or display them... or collect them... or use them... I was thinking maybe making a poker chip set with gold silver copper and zinc bars would be fun amongst friends who won't steal a $2k bar used as a $5 chip...

There is always a market for coins, but there is significantly less of a market for jewelry from a failed marriage. Plus people buying wedding jewelry are often in the mood to overpay, and people selling used wedding jewelry are often desperate to get rid of jewelry.

I think this is a troll, but no returns
It for sure is, Costco doesn't have a 2 year policy on anything. They have no return, 90 day, and forever polies though based on the item.

Eagle generally worth a little more because the impurities have value
I haven't experienced that. What I've seen is buffalos are slightly more than eagles.

I would imaging when sell this, no one going to buy from you unless 40-75% off retail price.
No need to imagine, you can get real time quotes from apmex and the like.

Most real coin stores will offer you spot out a bit more.

Jewelry stores and pawn shops will rip you off and offer you below spot .

eBay/fb marketplace will get you more but more dangerous
