Wow, 8th-gen Ryzen 5 laptop CPUs are still 6-core? They were 6 cores 4 generations ago!

This has newer gen processors, equal in generation to 14th gen intel processors.

As long as performance is good, nobody cares about how many cores there are.

If you are among the people who specifically need high performance or have specific requirements on the number of cores, Ryzen 7 and 9 are out there. For a price.

The performance of this CPU on this $600 laptop is good enough by any standard.

I'm absolutely sure it will have good performance, especially at the $600 price point. But did you see that it runs up to 5.0GHz? Looks like Ryzen has clocked these chips way up, and my guess is that will increase the heat. Remember how 11th-gen Intel mobile CPUs ran so hot because many of them were 4-core?
Sure, I can see your point, but if you made it clear that your concern was about the max frequency and power consumption instead of focusing on the core count number, I wouldn't bother to say anything.

If you mean 8000 series vs. 7000: it depends on the CPU. The third digit is most important, it tells you if the chip is based on Zen 2 (e.g., 7520U), Zen 3 or 3+ (e.g., 7530U or 7535U) or Zen 4 (e.g., 7540U or 8645HS or whatever). The 8645HS is a lot faster than any Zen 2 or Zen 3 equivalents, but not significantly faster than 7040 series processors with Zen 4, since the only difference is the addition of some AI something something.

But you're not going to find 7040 processors for much less than this anyway.

PATHETIC behavior by Lenovo.
a) Since the 4xxx series AMD had HDMI 2.0 available. Infact 4xxx competed with the Core 9th gen and 10th gen and till 11th Gen Tiger Lake and only on the higher i7s, Intel did not have a HDMI 2.0 working.
Roughly these are equivalent among competition
4xxx - 10th Gen Core
5xxx - 11th Gen Core
6xxx - 12th Gen Core
7x4x - 13th Gen Core
8x4x - 14th Gen Core

Now this laptop is 4 generations higher from AMD 8940HS despite the worst marketing shenanigans of AMD employed since its Athlon XP ++ ratings. The HDMI port is HDMI 1.4b from 2018??

b) One of the areas where AMD has perpetually lagged behind Intel is their external IO. Intel had Thunderbolt 3 for a long time with 20Gbps bidirectional bandwidth and went with TB4 with 40Gbps. Heck even Apple went with Intel just because of that despite both in performance and power AMD was kicking Intel's butt.
The first M1 laptops even had TB ports. Finally AMD gets USB4 with the 6000 series which started properly working after some bios updates. Now it is really incredible that instead of 2 USB4 being there we have 2x USB-C (USB 5Gbps / USB 3.2 Gen 1), with USB PD 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 Gen1 and not even Gen2 10Gbps.

Till now I thought DELL is the only one that purposefully does this to AMD, but atleast they would do so with 5700U but despite saddling with a pathetic 250 nit 45% NTSC display atleast on occasion they would have 1 USB-C 3.2Gen2.available.

But Lenovo takes the cake for being even worser than Dell..
