I passed PMP many years ago, it's both a learning tool for studying and an ongoing reference book for project management at work.

Just finished my PMP class course through PMI. The new exam will not utilize PMBOK 6th or PMBOK 7th edition. In 2025, it sounds like the test will go back to using the PMBOK. The 2024 test was written before the 7th edition was available.

Google cert hold no weight, it's too new. You can learn stuff there if you are beginner, that's about it.

Personal guilt, that I never used it after getting through PMP 7 years back ! Stick Out Tongue

No one does. Historically it did not match the format of the exam. Not sure whether that's changed since the Agile stuff was added.

I agree, Google cert isn't something anybody cares about today.

Frankly I think the PMP is kind of a ticket to ride (replying to the original commenter here) - I've met many PMP-certified people who are not good project managers, and plenty of young hungry engineers were basically doing PM/Tech PM roles without the title. You're either built for it or you aren't and the cert won't change that.

Grinding through and getting a PMP certification was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

This is the main study book for PMP exam preparation. This version is the latest/current.

For $1, this is certified Slick.

As others have said the Google stuff isn't worth much but a good company taking on a junior PM will pay for your PMP if you don't have it.

My best tip for being a PM is how important scalability is with project management tools. Smaller lower risk projects do not require the same level of control and so need less tools and more flexibility and vice versa. Learning how to scale your use of tools to the size and risk of the project is a key skill.

I try to get not too off track from the deal, but also try to replying to the original commenter. It the tech work, PMP don't get you much, experience in a technical role is much prefer over a career PM. If you work for other industries that hire PM, PMP seems to open more door.

Ah, the PMP. The most worthless certification in the ocean of worthless certifications. They don't audit and any idiot who can pass the test and pay the fee is a PMP.

My fiancee has had her PMP for a few years now., she works from home and we earn about the same.

It's a great line of work, I'm actually self studying toward my PMP as an exit strategy out of healthcare.
