If it's like last year's event, just walk in any Target and take a picture or scan the QR code. If you have an old one to trade in then great. I just wouldn't go out of my way to get a used one solely to get the discount for a new one.

Car seats have an expiration date. A lot of what is donated is expired. If anything they're doing this for recycling purposes.

I've been doing this since my oldest was a baby, so about 9 years and it's been 25% (so maybe they dropped to 20%) off SELECT baby items. So you "trade-in" a car seat and the coupon is good for other car seats, strollers, maybe playpens but it was never off anything. It had to be certain baby items.

Edited to add: they used to make you give the car seat to a team member and they'd give you a physical coupon but now that it's moved to their app, you just scan a code. But you must have the app and it's good for 2 items.

Also worth noting the 10% off GC that starts on 4/13. Perfect timing for those of us trading in a carseat and needing to make another big purchase.

Not cool but shows how worthless the coupon is.
I actually think it is awesome this person point out the loop hole! It is up to Target to close the loop hole like this…. Regardless I am hoping parents with this need can get more discount and savings with or without trade in….

Not awesome. You need to change the way you look at the world… Target is donating the used stuff to people really in need. I'm all for exploiting coupon loopholes when the "victim" is the corporation, but cheating a promotion designed to give something to charity is scummy.

They are not donating them. Why would they? They can't verify the safety on these donated items, it will be irresponsible of Target to hand them down to others to use. They are using these old units as write offs.

Yeah, they are not donating these. It's an incentive to get you to replace car seats that expire instead of handing it down to other children or extended family. I wouldn't be surprised if the government wasn't giving Target a kick back or the manufacturers. It's a win/win. You get a discount and will probably do some shopping while ur there.

Regardless if they are donating it to charity, I think it's wrong to assume everyone that wants to buy select baby gear has any old car seat. I personally feel like the proportion of people that are looking for new baby gear that have an old car seat laying around that would opt to not bring it in to Target is fairly small in comparison to those that would bring it in or just don't have an old car seat.

Kids have outgrown car seats, was waiting for a program like this to get the coupon and recycle. Is there anything worthwhile in the "baby" category that's NOT for babies/car seats?

I have used it in the past but not sure if it has changed. Been 2 years for me.

From the website:
What does Target do with the car seats that are traded in?
Materials from the old car seats will be recycled by Target's partners to create new products such as pallets, plastic buckets and construction materials such as steel beams and carpet padding.

Also, does it say anywhere specifically what else qualifies? I don't need carseats but I would love to get rid of some.
