I'd advise buying Target gift cards online for security. Last time Target had the 5% off sale during the holidays, 1 of my physical gift cards worth $200 was drained to $0 immediately after I purchased it. It took weeks to recover the funds back from Target.

Check out this story talking about it: https://www.nbcbayarea.com/invest...m/3461757/
Target doesn't code as Grocery for any credit card I know of.
Traditionally, it hasn't stacked with red card but would obviously stack with any credit card bonus categories you might have.

can anyone confirm if the bonus offer ( $10 for $70 purchase etc) gets fulfilled with a target GC purchase?

Still have $300 giftcard from December giftcard sale 😣 every time I compare price, Walmart usually cheaper and I have Walmart + with free shipping so I go with Walmart

I find that shampoo is cheaper at Target compared to Walmart.

I do all my shopping at Target, and they are extremely helpful and easy to price match any other store. I frequently price match Walmart, in store and online, without issue. I've also price matched Amazon, Best Buy, etc.
The fact that you are having to price match so much at Target really proves the other person's point about how Target pricing is not great. I agree with what others have voiced here that Target pricing is generally 10-20% higher than Walmart and with Target you constantly have to play games with gift cards and try to time Circle sales. It is easier for most people just to go to Walmart than do what you are doing and waste time constantly price matching and playing games with customer service just to get the same price as other stores. I am not saying that you cannot find any deals that are better than Walmart but it really takes a specific combination of you needing an item and it happening to be some special combination of Circle discounts.

So to me Target really seems to have more of a Kohl's type model lately, where they up price things and then give you discounts that essentially bring the price back down to the same price as other stores to make you think you are getting a deal. Then they loop you in with gift cards and what is essentially "Target cash" to keep you trapped at Target. It is marketing. That is why a lot of people prefer just to shop at Walmart and pay low price without messing with any of this.

Thanks for mentioning the Amex Blue Cash Everyday card. I didn't know it existed. Repped.

FYI for you and others interested: "3% Cash Back on U.S. Online Retail purchases, on up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1%). Cash back is received in the form of Reward Dollars that can be redeemed as a statement credit."

Also do you have experience with getting 3% using the card for buying gift cards? I know sometimes those get excluded in deal terms & conditions.

Does purchasing a gift card through the target app count as an "Online retail purchase"?

Be sure to buy online as all know about this one day deal and many many cards have been scanned and put on display by those who can immediately drain the balance to zero , .,, online and 30% or more will "forget" to ever redeem and then TARGET gets the FREE $

Is it just Targets in my area (NorCal) that have Target GCs now encased (like MC/Vias GCs)? You do not have access to the barcode or magnetic strip anymore. You have to physically pull off this tab (and it's obvious if this tab has been tampered with) to access the barcode to scan to purchase. So I don't understand how a scammer can 'scan & put back on display' for this new packaging. If I am not seeing how the scam would work now, please enlighten me! I am thinking of buying online, but ordering physical cards to be mailed to me. I like to give physical cards for gifts vs print-out an electronic GC.

It's not rocket science that Target has a different market than Walmart. I specifically go to Target to avoid the people and staff of Walmart, as do many others that shop Target.

I 100% agree. Years ago, Target used to be my go-to store for all shopping. These days, it's so convoluted and 'Kohls style' that I barely shop at Target at all. I really don't want to wade through page & pages of Target Circle 'deals & coupons' to see if there is something that makes my purchase a deal or even back to a 'normal' price. I know with the new Target Circle, all coupons/deals are supposedly pre-loaded for me, but if I don't know about the coupon or deal, I won't be encouraged to buy that item. I like to plan my shopping trips before I go to a store -- maybe I'm in the minority, and Target just wants mindless shoppers impulse buying overpriced items. I also am not a fan of Walmart (and there is no closeby Walmart for me), so (unfortunately or fortunately) I do a lot of purchasing on Amazon now.

As to Target GCs being drained, I have personally been a victim of Target GC being drained. It was hugely embarrassing for the giver, and they didn't have the 'receipt' for the original purchase (only the original purchaser can try to get the money back) so lost that $. But it also happened to me for a Macy's physical GC, and a $100 physical Sprouts GC I had purchased myself on sale ($90 for $100). Sprouts case was internal company fraud - they investigated for a week and then gave me a new $100 GC. Sprouts card was used in SoCal when I live in NorCal -- over 400 miles away.

I'm confused why you don't like looking through all the deals but then you're also mad when they preload all the deals because you don't have to look through all the deals?

They do have a regular ad as well.

There are SO MANY 'deals and coupons', esp for food. It would take a lot of time to page through them. Target doesn't have a search feature (at least last time I looked) to see if I could search for a deal or coupon for an item I am wanting to buy. I do like that they will now preload all the coupons (not mad about that), but if I didn't know an item is on sale, then it's not going to spur me to go to Target to buy that item (vs somewhere else). They do have their weekly ads, but that's diff to the Target Circle deals.

Grabbed $500 on CC.
Please note that Target CC won't give you the 5% for these purchase. Use your other CC that can maximize your cashback.

Great deal for people who shop at target frequently for whatever they need. Price comparison to Walmart seems to be case by case for different people. Take myself for example; I usually go for milk, egg, frozen fish, and/or ribeye. Price between the 2 often is very close, but target has 10% discount on GC frequent enough that I only use target CC once a year to keep it active. With 10% discount, Target usually is a better deal for me due to my spending habit, which is not the same case for everyone else.
