Good price, but one big important note: Bluetooth absolutely sucks on these Wacom tablets. For whatever reason, the Wacom ones are terrible. The third party ones? Not too bad!

Even for basic stuff like Photoshop or signing docs, the Bluetooth sucks. It works, it connects fine, but there's so much lag. every review will point this out. happens on my laptop, desktop and with multiple intuos Bluetooth tablets.

You can fortunately use this wired (USB micro cable) which works great, but don't let the Bluetooth be the selling factor for you.
I can attest to this. I bought one to use in Lightroom and Topaz. The lag makes it all but useless in bluetooth mode.

Anything this device can do but iPad can not if cost is not considered?
Use different nibs
Use it with Windows apps
Use it on an Android phone
Use it on a Chromebook

Also the drawing surface feels completely different than the slippery iPad screen

I haven't had any problems so far.
Neither have I.

I suspect it could be due to 2.4GHz radio interference. I've seen Bluetooth (mice) get really laggy in 2.4GHz-dense Wifi environments but work fine in less-dense environments.

To add to what IceQi said, the available software matters.

For instance, we use GIMP (a Photoshop clone), and that's not available on iPads. The drawing apps on iPad aren't as full-featured as GIMP and the desktop version of Photoshop.

Any recommendation for drawing software a child could use this with?
Adobe Fresco is free for the basic but functional version. If you child outgrows the free features, consider buying into the paid version of Fresco to unlock more brushes etc. or moving to Procreate.

This may be the case, and it might just be more noticeable due to being a drawing tablet versus mouse, but it's been a problem everywhere I've tried it (at work, at my previous home, and at my new house) and I don't think I have a lot of 2.4ghz interference going on.

It seems to be a big issue in most reviews, and I've owned 2-3 different models over the years with the same issue, and no issues on the "off brand" drawing tablets, so I'd say it's still something to be aware of, but may not affect everyone the same way

Can you recommend a drawing tablet with a display?

Definitely! You probably won't find a wireless one, but for wired I'd definitely recommend the "Huion" brand.

To pick a specific model, I'd probably say the "HUION Kamvas Pro 13 2.5K QHD Graphics Monitor Drawing Tablet with Screen QLED Full Lamination Battery-Free Stylus PW517 for Windows PC, Mac, Android, 13.3inch Digital Drawing Tablet Pen Display" which is about $300 and works great!

I have not experienced any issues with Bluetooth lag at all. Works absolutely fine. I use it with photoshop.

Hmm. The only way to test this would be for you to measure 2.4GHz around you with a spectrum analyzer, but that's probably not worth the effort.

It could be that Wacom does a poor job of implementing signal interference mitigation versus other brands.

For instance, I have been looking at various Bluetooth capable guitar amps like the Fender Mustang series, and you'll notice that a lot of those reviews talk about problems with 2.4GHz interference. It seems that the chipset that Fender uses doesn't have good mitigation versus other brands of guitar amps.

Wacom is probably buying the cheapest possible Bluetooth chipset from a 3rd party maker. If true, that is of course a reason not to buy Wacom.
